Thanks for the career advice

I fell in love with Reno’s when I bought my house at 30. I was considering making carpentry a 2nd career for me but you guys really gave me a good inside look at the industry. I have run businesses for years but see my industry coming to an end. After talking with my buddies in the trade and listening to all your pods I realize I’m better suited with the capital I have to do real estate investing. I’m just finishing my 2nd house and it seems like an easier gig than starting a Reno business. I can still be a craftsman and take pride in my work but don’t have to deal with change orders or people undercutting you. I realize how fortunate I am to be able to make this decision but you guys really helped me guide my career. I have insane respect for anyone who has made it in the trades and a lot of compassion to those trying to make it work.

Best way to spend sanding time

I’m a cabinetmaker working in commercial millwork and I have a lot of bench time doing repetitive tasks... so this podcast has served me well to pass the time doing a thousand biscuits.

it’s So interesting to get the business information, the boss perspective, the entrepreneurial issues and the banter... it’s a great look into the side of business us bench guys aren’t privy too. Thanks for doing this.
Ted.

Good but...

I discovered the podcast 3 days ago thanks to Spencer Lewis.
I like it so far but...
I don't like that it is a bit elitist at time. Not every customer can afford high-end work. It's not because my customers can't pay me to do high-end work that I'm a mediocre carpenter. I have the skills to do high-end work too. There is not too much demand for it in my area. And more importantly, I don't the con that you guys have to sell a high-end job. Because reality is people don't know if a contractor is good or not. They just know if the contractor LOOKS and SOUNDS like a good contractor. Which is irrational and it takes a different set of skills to understand and play with that. I'm just a good carpenter, not a salesperson.
I like Spencer Lewis' approach to the job better. More rational, and more business oriented. And I'm not surprised at all he doesn't like to deal with clients and prefers to work as a sub.
