Alonso commits to Aston Martin - but what can they achieve together?

Edd Straw is joined by Ben Anderson and special guest Lawrence Barretto, correspondent and presenter for F1.com and Channel 4 F1, to discuss the news that Fernando Alonso has re-committed his future to Aston Martin, with the Spaniard signing a multi-year deal. Our trio discuss why both parties were keen to take this step, ask what they can realistically achieve together, and address whether Alonso's age might impact their potential. After that, Edd, Ben and Lawrence take a look at how Alonso's signing affects the rest of the driver market for 2024, before turning their attention back to Aston Martin and assessing the team's long-term potential.

Why the Japanese GP will be a key barometer of team progress

Host Edd Straw is joined by Glenn Freeman and Josh Suttill to look ahead to this weekend's Japanese Grand Prix, and in particular why bringing the race forward on the calendar has made Suzuka an even better barometer of team progress and development direction. They also discuss the shock departure of David Sanchez from McLaren's technical team, catch up on the news that there's a deal in place for Formula 1 owner Liberty Media to buy MotoGP promoter Dorna, and chat about the progress made in 2024 by RB's Yuki Tsunoda, and whether Japan's sole F1 driver is doing enough to stay on the grid long-term.

Great listen!

Love listening to these guys, but their bias for Lando shines through often. Hard to avoid bias though in general.

Definitely Worth Following

The information comes from a more professional viewpoint and is a nice complement to other more fan-type podcasts, and the slightly “drier” presentation gives The Race it’s own identity. The contributors are all knowledgable and make their points well. If there is a weakness it’s that you have to go to a sister podcast for more techie stuff, when some aspects of this could probably enhance the discussions that Ed and the boys have. Plus Ed’s ratings do smell a bit of favouring the Brits sometimes. But generally well worth a regular visit.

Generic fans?

Guys. When was anyone not a generic fan unless they’re born into a racing family?

What about a new fan? What about a learning fan? What about people like me who found this sport 2 years ago and am learning and paying attention so I can build up a knowledge base?

Interesting dialogue. But wow. It would be awesome if you embraced the people listening to you. Maybe more of us are ‘generic’ than you think.
