054. How to create community as a service-based entrepreneur
Whether you have 10 or 10k followers, you DO have a community. We feel it's important to be part of a community because we know how hard it can be to try and grow a business, explore a passion project, or just break from the traditional career/work path without support or understanding. On a personal level, without community, you can feel lost, confused, or like giving up on your big goals.
As a brand, creating community is just as important. As our guest lecturer and podcast guest Becky Pleat stated in her course on creating a branded product, “The fact that you are a small business already gives you an advantage- you can create a sense of community that larger corporations cannot, and you can be more adaptable.”
In this episode:
- create a community around your brand
- deliver content, products and services for your community
- keep your audience engaged, so they’re always coming back for more

With 30+ in person and virtual events hosted, we’ve learned a few lessons along the way about ways to sell tickets, day-of tips to keep things running smooth, and key planning methods.
Last year we had monthly live, in-person events lined up in 2 cities, and had to cancel them alllll because, well 2020, she was a wild one. But we were able to use a lot of the same lessons and easily pivot to hosting online events. Which honestly has been so amazing because we’re able to connect with women from all over, from Cali to Canada to the UK, and everywhere in between, far and wide! While we have some exciting plans in the works for 2021 to connect IRL once again, we’ve loved being able to share our virtual corner of the web with you all!
So today, we’re breaking down lessons we’ve learned the last few years, when planning, promoting & hosting an event. Whether a virtual event or in-person, you’ll want to grab your pen & paper and take some notes
We talk about:
- Planning in-person events: Securing the space, sponsors & vendors
- How to promote your event
- Affordable ways to find supplies and decorations

Customer Reviews
SheXshines Podcast informative and fun
Even though I’m not the target audience, I’ve found this Podcast by chance and gave it a try (it’s part of my Covid year goals of listen to 1000 different Podcasts). I honestly wasn’t sure when I first started to listen but quickly I found the hosts Alexandria and Anna Laura fun and engaging, as well I’ve found the content of the podcast very informative and well balanced and each guest brings something that you can learn from. A solid 4/5 star podcast in my humble opinion.
