Superunknown stands the test of time with some S-Tier rock mixes that sound amazing on any good system. Mixed by Brendan O'Brien and produced with Michael Beinhorn, songs like "Black Hole Sun" and "Fell On Black Days" get just about everything right that a rock mix can get right. There are a ton of lessons to be learned here about relative levels between vocals, kick, snare, tom and guitars in the genre, exactly how to use panning to enhance the stereo filed and a lot more. Big thanks to Soundtoys, Lewitt Audio and Ultimate Support for making this episode possible.

Technical methods with a musical goal

My current favourite podcast. A great mix of musical and technical. You can learn a lot listening to SonicScoop. It gets you thinking on a deeper level. The techniques and the technology of producers and engeneers are tools with the end goal in mind of conveying an emotion. Thanks Justin for sharing so much knowledge with us!

Shilo Preshyon ,

Mentor to the Renaissance Engineer

Whether it’s microphone arrangement, mix ideology, demystifying the gate kept secrets of mastering, or building the knowledge base and confidence to run ones own business, Justin articulates and delivers sound advice that will batten the hatches of any ship you are sailing.
The audio world is lucky to have a personality and teacher willing to bridge the divide between the most veteran of mixing engineers and those beginning their journey. Best of all, Sonic Scoop maintains a deep level of honesty that allows the listener find out what THEY need to learn.
