(Ep. 336) #TSRP “Ain’t No Racism, Unless It’s Happening To Me!”

(Ep. 336) #TSRP “Ain’t No Racism, Unless It’s Happening To Me!”

We kick off the month of May with a surprise guest. But like we do all the time, we start things off with a few of Spann’s Random Thoughts. Before we roll on In The News, where Amazon is stated to be in the works of giving raises to over 500K employees after they’ve had much publicized battles with workers attempting to unionize themselves. The men charged in the death of Ahmaud Arbery have now also been charged with Federal Hate Crimes related to his death as well. A Michigan Bar and Restaurant owner says he can’t find people willing to work in his new establishment because of the “generous” unemployment benefits in the state. And while we’re talking about unemployment, the Michigan legislature has introduced a proposal that would offer the people currently collecting unemployment $1K to find work. Will it be enough to get more people back into the workforce, or is this more of a carrot and stick scenario?

Then we move on to Blue Blazes, where an Australian father has gone viral after he showed disappointment at the gender reveal of his coming child. Cornel West has accused former President Barack Obama of not having enough courage to fight against racism while he occupied the Oval Office, but he asserts that Joe Biden indeed does have the courage. Is it a fair criticism? And the owner of a private school in Miami is barring any of the teachers at her school from vaccination under the threat of losing their jobs. But what rationale could she be using to bar the teachers from the vaccination in the first place? And another fight happened at Detroit Metro Airport, this time it was over an altercation that happened during the flight. But can you guess which airline it was, and why did you chose Spirit?

And then we’re off to Proud To Be American, where South Carolina Senator Tim Scott found himself trending on Twitter for the most unflattering of reasons. So much so, that Twitter opted to block the term, “Uncle Tim” from it’s trending topics after Senator asserted that America is “NOT A RACIST COUNTRY” during his Republican rebuttal to Joe Biden’s first address before a joint session of Congress. In a piggyback off of that, Meghan McCain went on The View to excoriate “The Left” for how they reacted to the speech. But has “The Left” simply become a euphemism of “The Blacks” in Republican, and conservative circles?

We then close out the show with our Champ of The Week announcement. So y’all know what it is. Time to get to the Real Talk, ALL THE TIME right here on The Spann Report Podcast!

(Ep. 335) #TSRP “When Faking It Till You Make It, Goes Wrong”

(Ep. 335) #TSRP “When Faking It Till You Make It, Goes Wrong”

We’re back again for another week of news, pop culture and politics. But before we do that, we get a few of Spann’s Random Thoughts from the past week, in addition to some Listener Feedback, before we get In The News, where first we have a breaking story of a man who’s been arrested after intentionally trying to infect others with the coronavirus. He was able to infect 22 people. A Virginia State Trooper has finally found himself out of a job after he appeared on a viral video gleefully threatening to assault a black motorist during a traffic stop. More colleges are making the COVID-19 vaccine mandatory for students seeking to come back to campus, are they going to far? The state of Michigan finds itself as a hotspot for COVID-19 infections in children. This comes as more and more parents are protesting against mask mandates and remote learning for their child across the state. And also in Michigan, a Beaumont Health System doctor says more than 99% of the hospitalized Covid patients in their care have yet to be vaccinated.

Then we move on to Blue Blazes, where Kara “Super Karen” Bell, a candidate for the Lake Travis School Board was arrested at a Nordstrom Rack store because of her refusal to wear a mask. Police body cam footage recorded the exchange that led to her arrest. Ted Nugent, a rock music musician, and huge Donald Trump supporter has revealed on a Facebook live video, that he had contracted COVID-19. This after proclaiming publicly numerous times that this was a “fake pandemic.” Life comes at you fast doesn’t it? A Florida couple planned to have a wedding at a beautiful and sprawling mansion. The problem for them, they didn’t own the mansion, nor did they have permission to be there. And Kellogg’s, the cereal maker plans to release a new cereal in celebration of Pride Month later this year, which has led to a some shameful, albeit predictable backlash.

And in Proud To Be American, Apple has signaled that they may be willing to allow the right wing social media app, Parler back into their app store. This comes after they banned the app due to the insurrection that happened on January 6th of this year. Georgia Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor-Green had to scrap plans for a new America First Caucus, after it received backlash not only from left wing and progressive circles, but from right wing politicians as well. Although we don’t think they did so for the same reasons. And in Arizona, Republicans are still spinning their wheels on The Big Lie that Donald Trump won the election, and are ordering yet another recount of the ballots in their state.

Finally, we wrap everything up with our Champ of The Week announcement, and we get on up outta here. So let’s get to it fam, with the Real Talk, ALL THE TIME right here this week on The Spann Report!

(Ep. 334) #TSRP “Yo Facebook, What’s The Charge?”

(Ep. 334) #TSRP “Yo Facebook, What’s The Charge?”

On today’s episode of #TSRP we jump into the mind of Spann with a few of his Random Thoughts from this past week before we respond to some Listener Feedback. Then we jump right In The News, where the FDA has put a pause on the use of the Johnson & Johnson one dose COVID vaccine after a few occurrences of blood clots with patients that received it. Kim Potter, the now former Minneapolis Police Officer that killed Daunte Wright during a traffic stop has been charged for his death. 13 year old Adam Toledo was shot in killed by Chicago Police, and body cam footage appears to show that he was unarmed at the time he was shot, but was he in possession of a gun just moments before he was shot? And the state of Tennessee could be on the hook to HBCU, Tennessee State University to the tune of $544 Million in land grant funds that never made it to the school.

Then we move on to Blue Blazes, where Lisa Raye and her rapper sister, Da Brat appeared to have made up recently at a birthday party. Has our months long national nightmare finally come to an end? A Louisiana woman was arrested for refusing to return $1.2 Million that was mistakenly deposited into her bank account. Did the Lord giveth her thine monies and also taketh away her freedom? An exotic dancer in Las Vegas has accused R&B singer Usher of making it rain in the club with funny money. Could he really have thought they’d be hollering YEAH! after this stunt? And a California family has finally been able to move into their dream home after a 15 month long battle with a squatter. Could it still be your dream home if you had to fight the person who sold you the home to move out for 15 months?

Then we got some people meeting the unemployment line, justifiably so in Lose Your Job, where the police officer who pepper sprayed United States Army Lieutenant, Caron Nazario has been let go by the Windsor Police Department in Virginia. And a 26 year old internet marketer was let go by his employer after he was called out for promoting the sale of blank COVID vaccination cards on his TikTok page.

And in Proud To Be American, we find Sharon Osbourne on Real Time With Bill Maher giving her account in what ultimately resulted in her getting fired from The Talk. But was this a genuine retelling of the events, or a softball interview from a seemingly more right friendly “liberal?” Will Smith, and Antoine Fuqua have decided to move the production of their new movie, Emancipation from Georgia in response to the passage of the new Georgia Voting Laws passed. And former Republican Congressman, and current Texas State Republican Chairman, Allen West has a bone to pick with them, as he’s a native of Georgia. But is he picking the wrong fight?

And then as always, we close the show out, with our Champ of The Week announcement, so let’s get to it fam, with the Real Talk, All The Time, right here on The Spann Report!

    (Ep. 333) #TSRP “So Long X”

    (Ep. 333) #TSRP “So Long X”

We start off this episode going straight In The News, as we learned of the untimely passing of one of Hip Hop’s greats, DMX. Sean “Diddy” Combs jumps into the debate on systemic racism, and using economic means to fight for the progress Black folks would like to see, but much like his earlier controversial views on voting in the last cycle, is he REALLY the one we need out front carrying this torch? And HIV vaccine could be on the horizon, possibly changing the game on the treatment of that deadly infection, how soon could we see it in the public domain? And while we’re talking about vaccines, there have been almost 150 cases of COVID-19 in the state of Michigan that involve people who were previously fully vaccinated. What could this mean for the efficacy of this vaccine, and the attitudes of people who are yet still reluctant to take it?

Then we move on to Blue Blazes, where actress, and current talk show host Lisa Raye went on the Iyanla Fix My Life, and talked about the rift she has with her sister, rapper, Da Brat. Candace Owens went on Fox News recently bemoaning the public school system in America, and stating that the schools are now teaching kids to hate white people, and that parents should pull their kids out of the education system and school them at home. And one of the co-founders of the Black Lives Matter movement is coming under scrutiny for some of the real estate purchases she’s made over the course of the last few years. This comes after some more pointed commentary came from the mother of Tamir Rice, Samaria Rice on the appearance to her that some of the people who are becoming known as activist are enriching themselves off of the deaths of their loved ones.

Then it’s off to Proud To Be American, where the Biden Administration is debating on if it has the authority to cancel up to $10K in student loan debt. Possibly wiping out ALL student loan debt for up to 34% of borrowers. The effort to unionize an Amazon distribution warehouse met defeat in Alabama. A United States Army Officer is suing two Virginia police officers after they pepper sprayed him during a traffic stop. And in Detroit, an ordinance that gave residents 1st priority in processing marijuana dispensary applications has been challenged in court as unconstitutional. Is it really though?

And of course, we’ll be ending the show with our Champ of The Week announcement. So y’all know what it is. Let’s get to the Real Talk, All The Time, right here on The Spann Report!

(Ep. 332) #TSRP “Just Take The Damn Shot!”

(Ep. 332) #TSRP “Just Take The Damn Shot!”

Back on the Mic for the first week of April, and Spring is FINALLY HERE! Now that we’ve kicked winter’s ole trifling cold dreary behind to the curb, we can get to some more cheerful podcasting. And we kick things off with a few of Spann’s Random Thoughts before we roll right on over In The News, where we unfortunately find that rapper DMX is in grave condition after suffering from an apparent drug overdose. Marilyn Mosby, the District Attorney for the city of Baltimore has announced that her office will no longer prosecute drug possession, prostitution, or other low level offenses in the city. Vaccine passports could soon be required for travel. And fake CDC COVID-19 Vaccination cards are now becoming a hot commodity on the dark web.

We then move on to Blue Blazes, where a Detroit restaurateur is fed up with patrons coming into his establishment smelling like weed. A woman got tired of waiting in the Burger King drive thru lane, so she shot up the place? Bad Bhabie, may have just set a record on OnlyFans, shortly after starting her account fresh after turning 18. And Gospel singer Donnie McClurkin says he may just end up alone with no one to share his life with because of his sexuality

Then it’s on to Lose Your Job, where one person has already been given the boot. Sharon Osbourne is no longer a part of the talk show The Talk, after blowing up on set about a racism conversation involving her friend Piers Morgan. And Florida Congressman, and known Trump lackey, Matt Gaetz is seeing the walls come in around him, after it was revealed that he is under investigation by the Justice Department for allegedly being involved in the sex trafficking of a minor.

And off we go to Proud To Be American, where we start off with some positive news. The Pentagon has lifted a Trump era policy that barred trans Americans from signing up for the armed forces. Major League Baseball has pulled their All Star Game from the city of Atlanta in response to the new voting law in Georgia. But then again, this IS Proud To Be American right? So that would explain why in Florida, their House of Representatives has just approved a bill aimed at curbing protest in the street, by calling it an “Anti-Riot” bill.

Then we wrap everything up with the announcement of our new Champ of The Week! So let’s get to it family, with the Real Talk, ALL THE TIME, this week here on The Spann Report!
