Is Together Really Always Better with Courtney Hightower

Is Together Really Always Better with Courtney Hightower

Hello listeners and welcome back to the podcast. This week, I have special guest Courtney Hightower. She is a mom to 6 ranging in ages 4-16.
Courtney and I started talking in the comments on one of my posts and just knew this could be a conversation to benefit all special needs moms. Is it okay if being together isn’t actually better? As families that have children with special needs, sometimes they can’t or don’t want to do the same adventures and activities as the rest of the family. Courtney and I discuss how sometimes it is okay to leave your special needs with a someone or bring an extra person on your adventure to be specifically with that child.
Courtney suggests, find a friend, a sitter, a grandma to help and don’t always feel obligated to do ALL the things together. We see you trying. We know you always mean well. As always, keep your head up and keep going! Chat again next week.

Staying on the Same Team as your Spouse with Dan Ryska

Staying on the Same Team as your Spouse with Dan Ryska

070: Hello Listeners and Happy New Year. This is my first episode of 2022 and it’s a special one. This week was our 18th wedding anniversary and I wanted to finally bring my husband, Dan on as a guest!

Dan and I talk about how important it is to be vocal with each other as well as carrying to load together. We like to think we are doing a good job in our marriage and it does help us parent our special needs child better.

I hope you enjoy this special conversation and can take away some helpful hints for parenting with your spouse, partner or the parent of your child.

    Setting Boundaries During the Holidays

    Setting Boundaries During the Holidays

Hey listeners, this episode I want to help you set yourself up for success. During the holiday season, there are so many activities, plans and gatherings with family and friends. It is really easy to get overwhelmed and feel triggered.
Boundaries are a way to create a safe environment, physically or emotionally for ourselves and as special needs mom, also our children.

The idea of these boundaries is to control yourself and not other people. Make the requests about you and honor your feelings and desires this year.

Hope as a Way of Being

Hope as a Way of Being

Hey there! This week I am bringing you a conversation about hope. I want to be clear that the kind of hope I’m talking about refers to things that have a reasonable chance of happening. It’s hard as special needs moms to let ourselves have hope for things, but living in that hope can make us take actions towards the outcome.
When we hope we connect to our desire and we believe it is possible. Whether this leads us to doing therapies or having positive attitudes or encouraging our children; these are all great things.
Keep hoping, keep acting on that hope and revel in that power!

Choose Your Hard with Francesca Collins

Choose Your Hard with Francesca Collins

066: Hello listeners. This week I am having a conversation with Francesca Collins. She’s a homesteader who lives in a 400 sq ft home with her special needs daughter, Emery and husband.

Francesca shares how she’s been listening to the podcast from the beginning and I’m so glad she reached out to be to be on it. Her favorite saying is “choose your hard” and I love that. Sometimes as special needs moms, all the options are hard and you just have to choose which one you’d rather do.

Francesca lives in a remote area, hours away from therapies and appointments and she shares how she’s learned to do these things and incorporates the therapies into their daily routine to help her daughter while saving precious time.  She has hopes that one day Emery will be able to run around the farm and interact in their hands on life style. Until then, Francesca says she will take the progress they get and try to enjoy the moments and experiences with her little family.

Amy Hogan ,

Like having an intimate conversation with a best friend

Kara, I’ve been listening to your podcast since day 1 and I love it! I just finished the latest podcast re: your son, Levi and wanted to share how much I enjoyed it. It feels so intimate like you’re right in my ear sharing your story, your embarrassing moments, and how you sit with your emotions. It’s so powerful and loving. You are a class act, Kara. Heart through and through. I look forward to hearing more of your stories and learning how to shift how I look at things so I can be the person I want to be in this world. xo
