The enemy is trying to go across the chasm via ropes but it proves more dangerous than expected. Sinon and Leafa, with the help of Yui, go to RATH and contact Kikuoka. They notify him that the FLA rate, the passage of time, is synched between the real and virtual world. Also, countless American players are going into the Underworld and join the Dark Territory army. Lisbeth pleads and tries to persuade other VRMMO players to join them and help Kirito and Asuna.

Asuna arrives in the Underworld and is greeted by Tiese and Ronie. They take her to see Kirito who cries, almost speaks and tries to move. Alice than attacks Asuna suspecting her to be an enemy spy! Burcouli breaks up the fight and has Asuna tell the captains about where she comes from. Then Asuna explains that the enemy wants Alice and it is revealed that there could be sabotage going on! The episode ends with Alice, Asuna, Ronie and Liena coming to share stories and information about Kirito.

Alice joins the front line and reconnects with the other knights. Eldrie says that Kirito is “dead weight” but Alice puts him in his place. Tiese and Ronie interrupt Alice’s near kiss with Kirito and learn the truth about Eugeo and Kirito’s current condition. They also agree to take care of Kirito during the battle. Alice learns she is the strongest fighter and that Kirito is even better than “uncle” - both facts surprise her! The barrier to the dark territory crumbles but there are many ready to fight!

It is the year 2022, and full virtual reality has been developed. Kirito is a player of the VRMMORPG "Sword Art Online". Whilst in the midst of having fun, he and the 10,000 other players logged-in at the time suddenly receive an unbelievable announcement from the system administrator: The only way log-out is by clearing the game. Further, getting a "game over" within the game will also result in real death. Kirito is amongst the first to accept this reality. Foregoing the option of forming parties with other players, he challenges this death-game as a solo player.
