No false advertising: Tim Black truly offers "News - for people who can't stand the 'news'!"

There is a very good chance that the Tim Black at Night show will go down in history as being partially responsible (along with Benjamin Dixon, the Young Turks, Kyle Kulinski and Debbie Lusignan) for the explosion in popularity of issues-based, unabashedly progressive editorial news shows that populate the internet. These are news shows that know the difference between opinion and fact, offering both, but clearly informing the viewer which is which.

What makes Tim Black stand out is his reliance on his listenership to contribute to the show. Many shows have call-in sections, but while many political shows merely pay lip service to being open to conflicting views, Tim Black embraces them. True: on Mondays through Thursdays callers are encouraged to stick to the topics of the day, discussed by Tim in the first portion of the show. However Fridays are different. Callers get 5 minutes of free airtime to talk about whatever they please for Freedom (of speech) Fridays. Naturally, libel, enticements of violence, and slander are off the table, but beyond that, it's up to to the caller to fill the time.

Tim Black's strict adherence to the principles of journalism, and the fact that we get to hear from nearly all segments of society, (since it isn't just progressives who listen to his show) makes the Tim Black at Night Show essential listening for anyone who wants the News, but who smells fertilizer wafting off of the mainstream talking heads, and who feels they cheapen the word "news" every time they speak.

For political junkies, even those who don't agree with Tim Black, this show is a must.

Terrible Quality

Tim Black has a very affable energetic personality, but the sound quality of his shows are awful. He just uploaded a podcast where you can' hear his interview subject for the entire duration of the episode. Awful.

Opinionated content is good, but...

The podcast has something of a "off the beaten track" feel to it which, depending on your feelings toward that can be either intriguing or off putting. His Opinions on topics are his, and he does not shy away from being controversial or alone on a subject. The fact that he gives listeners, both left and right wing,a platform to not only vent but to expand ideas can be good at times, but at others it can grind the show to a halt. My main gripe though is the awful audio quality. It really needs help on the production side, and the movie samples and clapping soundtrack are amateur garage style. Some polish on his delivery, less shtick and sharper more in depth grasp of facts, and he could become a MUST to listen to.
