Bonus: Outside the White Box Episode 4
Many coaches believe that once they become certified, they will be equipped with the tools to coach anyone on anything. It’s a lovely thought, but maybe not so helpful when you’re in your tenth session with a client who just stares at you blankly as you try to explain, for the 50th time, how their thoughts are creating their results and why that’s a great thing. While there are certainly powerful frameworks out there, the coaching principles we learn aren’t one-size-fits-all. One single tool or framework isn’t going to work for everybody, and that’s ok. In this episode, Kara Loewentheil and Simone Seol will discuss how to bring more openness, nuance, and discernment into your coaching, so you can coach clients of different backgrounds and lived experiences effectively.

People Pleasing in Sex, Marriage, and Everywhere Else: A Conversation with Advanced Certification in Feminist Coaching Graduates Maggie Reyes, Sara Fisk, and Sonia Wright
Does saying “no” make you feel like you’re going to die? Are you so fixated on taking care of everybody around you that you neglect yourself? People socialized as women are taught that they are responsible for everyone else’s thoughts and feelings, and that their value comes from taking care of others…so it’s no wonder that so many of us struggle with people-pleasing.
On this episode, you will meet three of my Advanced Certification in Feminist Coaching students - Maggie Reyes, Sara Fisk, and Sonia Wright - for a conversation about where people-pleasing comes from, how it manifests in their clients, and how to interrupt your people-pleasing habit.

Coaching tools didn’t descend from the heavens. They were developed by humans whose social context impacted the way they saw the world and their clients, including what they even viewed as a “problem” to be solved in the first place. In other words, those coaching modalities that you know and love? Yeah, those were made up. Before you abandon all meaning and run off into the woods, tune into this episode to learn why understanding this is exactly what will elevate your coaching. Kara Loewentheil and Simone Seol will discuss how learning the intellectual history of modern coaching concepts and embracing the subjectivity of coaching modalities will help you deliver powerful coaching to clients with radically different backgrounds and beliefs than you.

Not Identifying As a Feminist: A Conversation with Advanced Certification in Feminist Coaching Graduates Amy Logan, Brig Johnson, Linda Street, and Maggie Reyes
Are you hesitant to identify as a feminist? Conversely, do you struggle to understand why any woman WOULDN’T want to identify as a feminist? Cultural messaging around what feminism means is so pervasive that even proud feminists often have to shed cultural narratives that feminists are angry, humorless man-haters. When you look at the history of feminism through an intersectional lens, it becomes even clearer why some women - especially BIPOC women - may not identify with the movement.
In this episode, I am joined by four of my Advanced Certification in Feminist Coaching (ACFC) graduates to discuss their discomfort with the label prior to joining the certification, and how ACFC changed their relationship to feminism. Whether you strongly identify as a feminist, or you’re unsure about whether you want to be one and what that even means, this episode will help you understand your own blind spots around why other people may not relate to this movement as you do.

Life changing, life affirming!
This podcast is such a great tool to help people understand why they think and react the way they do. It helps us understand our brain wiring and shows us a way out of maladaptive patterns. Thank you!!
This is the one!
I’ve listened to soooo many self help podcasts. I’ve done talk therapy. I’ve read books. All in the quest to figure out how to deal with my sad feelings that inevitably emerge. This podcast has been the game changer. I will not say that the concepts are always easy to apply in life, but I do believe that this work is the key. As a 41 year old, addressing feelings is not something I was ever taught and my parents definitely were not taught it. I hope I will have the tools to learn how to teach my son to manage his mind and therefore manage his feelings. The concepts makes sense to me. There is a science basis to it which I like (the way our “lizard brain” works and the way our brains had to function to survive tribal life years ago). It’s taught me a lot. Very few things in life are objectively verifiable. Instead they are thoughts going through our head about the things. I still struggle with my thoughts around the things and circumstances that are indeed objectively verifiable. But that is part of my work and I believe just seeing the difference is a step ahead for me. Also the things about patriarchy and feminism are so important and I only wish I had seen the significance of these terms when I was younger and in my 30’s.
Finally, I wanted to say that the episodes on Contrast of Emotion and Reactivity vs. Resilience were excellent and I related to them so much. If you are like me and struggle with emotions, you might enjoy these.
Wonderful, brilliant work you are doing Kara!
Life changing in so many ways
I have only listened to a handful of episodes so far, and I have never felt so much hope and ease of mind that I can actually make changes to improve stresses and anxiety in my life. Kara thank you so very much for creating this podcast and providing busy individuals (who may not know where to start with getting help or feel overwhelmed about getting help) with knowledge and tools to incorporate into their life.
