What I Learned From My 38-Year Struggle With Perfectionism HER Style Podcast | Buy Less, Shop Smarter, Build a Wardrobe You Love

    • Fashion & Beauty

Guess what! It’s my birthday month! That’s right. It’s a running joke in my family that I don’t just have a birthday… I have a birthday month.

As I was thinking about what I wanted to share with you, I came up with today’s topic. But it had 2 different titles: What I Learned From My 38-Year Struggle with Perfectionism and What I Learned From My 38-Year Struggle with Contentment. I couldn’t decide which to focus on and I feel like they’re equally important messages, so I decided to turn this into a 2-part series. Today, we’ll be focusing on perfectionism and next Monday, we’ll talk about contentment.

Now, you know I love giving you really tactical episodes on building a wardrobe you love. Admittedly, these 2 episodes are going to be a little bit different from the norm. I’m not talking about the fall trends (you can listen to episode #74 for that!) or how to create better outfits (see episode #72). But from time to time, I like to go deeper and I feel like it’s necessary.

Because on a lot of fashion & beauty podcasts, you’re going to hear all of the products you need to buy to look younger and prettier. You’re going to hear about cosmetic surgeries and what the hottest celebrities are wearing and doing. You might leave feeling less than. I know I have. You’re going to hear a laundry list of what you have to have this season to look stylish and be on trend and feel fabulous. But if you’ve been hanging around HER Style Podcast for a minute, you know I don’t subscribe to that. I believe less is more. I want you to shop smarter and with greater intention. And I’m all about helping you work with what you’ve got rather than making you feel like there’s something you’re missing.

So today, we’re going to dive into my 38-year struggle with perfectionism. I wish I could tell you this is a challenge I’ve fully overcome. It’s still a journey for me as I get ready to celebrate my 39th birthday this month. But I have learned quite a few lessons and I feel like everyday it gets easier to embrace my shortcomings and imperfections.
