Mike Bullard accomplished something no other Canadian had before: hosted Canada’s first truly successful nightly talk show. Running for six unprecedented seasons, “Open Mike” (1997), was one of the longest running late-night talk shows in North America. The Gemini award-winning series was the most-watched late-night talk show in Canada’s largest market, comparable in popularity and success to late-night heavyweights Letterman and Leno.

It’s a platform for people who haven’t updated their views or learned anything since 1966. Most of the derisive babble comes from the guests, but Mike is too cowardly, mealy-mouthed, and non-committal to actually say what he means. Every take is essentially “I’m not _____phobic, but here’s a list of grievances for why I hate _____ people”. That’s the shtick. If you want people to think of you like they think of their obnoxious out of touch uncle they dread having to sit with at holidays, listen to Mike Bullard.
