    This is our sixth episode, the first of season 2, brought to you by the Prince Mahidol Award Conference 2023: Setting A New Health Agenda - At The Nexus Of Climate Change, Environment and Biodiversity. The conference will be held on the 24-29 January 2023, Bangkok, Thailand

    In a wide ranging discussion, Jonathan Foster and Omnia El Omrani talk about her role as the liaison between grassroots activists and COP 27 in her new role as the first ever President Envoy on Youth for the upcoming COP 27. They address the responsibility of the medical profession to translate the complexity of global and personal health into a comprehensible story and the direct link between the planetary health and individual health. And they discuss the challenging the fundamental values and principles that are the root causes our climate and health emergency and how Omnia imagines a future world.

    Omnia El Omrani is the first ever President Envoy on Youth for the upcoming COP 27. She is also a Surgery Resident at Ain Shams University in Egypt. She served as the Liaison Officer for Public Health Issues for the IFMSA, leading its external work in Climate Change, Non-Communicable Diseases, and Mental Health. She is a Commissioner at the Lancet-Chatham House Commission on Improving Population Health Post-COVID and an associate at Women Leaders for Planetary Health.

    In this 5th episode in the series we speak to Nathan Metenier, a 22 years old climate and environmental activist and one of seven members of Antonio Guterres’ Youth Advisory Group on Climate Change. He is part of the leading youth climate networks in Europe, notably as Advocacy Manager of Youth and Environment Europe, co-founder of Generation Climate Europe and the only young member of the European Environmental Bureau.



    Nathan talks passionately about how we need to introduce more representation and diversity into the internal power structures of institutions. He talks about mechanisms for change including creating a more robust civil society and how his own journey to climate activism helped him to realise that the climate emergency is a social as well as a scientific challenge and that the Greta Effect is also about being part of a family of like-minded people.

    Máximo Mazzocco from Argentina is the founder and director of Eco House Global, a youth-led environmental organisation with one of the highest amounts of volunteers in Latin América, with 30 active programs in the region. He was recently selected UNDP Youth Leader by the Generation17 initiative. He was Youth Delegate in COP25 and UN Climate Summit NY 2019.



    Elizabeth Wathuti is an Environmentalist and Climate Activist. She is the founder of the Green Generation Initiative, which has planted 30,000 tree seedlings in Kenya, and the Head of Campaigns at Wangari Maathai Foundation. In 2019, she was awarded the Africa Green Person of the Year Award and named one of the 100 Most Influential Young Africans. She is a Global South Co-Chair of the COP26 Civil Society and Youth Advisory Council.

Lavetanalagi is also the Co-Founder and Coordinator of the Alliance for Future Generations – Fiji.



    Komal Kumar is a Climate Activist from Fiji. She has joined the Sustainable Ocean Alliance as the Pacific Island Representative to increase the presence of SOA in the Pacific and provide an engaging platform for youths from the Pacific to engage more effectively in the ocean space both regionally and internationally.

    In this series, podcast host Jonathan Foster takes a closer look at the lives of youth leaders and activists, discussing the current climate, environment, and health crisis and the possibilities, alternatives, and ideas for transformational change. In this third episode, we speak to Climate Activist Komal Kumar from Fiji. She is currently doing her master’s in development studies, focusing on “Climate Change and Planned Relocation in Fiji”. She is a member of the Sustainable Ocean Alliance as the Pacific Island Representative and the Alliance For Future Generations.

    Komal offers us her philosophy of engagement through education and how to be taken seriously as a climate and health activist, the psychology of standing up and being counted, the importance of ocean ecosystems, taking a stand against tokenism and keeping an open mind when trying to find sustainable solutions. She is working to raise awareness concerning the severity of the climate and health emergency that the Pacific is facing and increase the presence of the Sustainable Ocean Alliance in the Pacific and provide an engaging platform for youths from the Pacific to engage more effectively.

He has been at the confluence of academia, hospital, research, and entrepreneurship in enabling the goal of SDG 3.

    Wannasingh Prasertkul is a writer, documentary producer, tv-host and environmental activist from Thailand. He is a high-profile supporter of UNHCR and unwavering in his commitment to raising funds and awareness to help and support refugees in Thailand and around the globe through the “Namjai for Refugees” campaign. He is well known for his dedication as an environment and climate change activist through his YouTube channel with almost 500K subscribers.
