Ep. 3 — Kidney Transplants feat. Bijan Farhangui
The SAMI Health Revolution Podcast is continuing its focus on discussing revolutionary and innovative developments in both U.S. and international healthcare. In this episode, we spotlight the complicated yet highly important world of organ transplants. With more than 84,000 organ transplants performed in the U.S. every year, they are not uncommon procedures and are often critical to the survival of patients. We explore Bijan Farhangui’s personal journey as he explored many innovative therapies for kidney disease, before ultimately traveling to Iran to participate in the Iranian kidney transplant marketplace, where Iranian nationals can pay a kidney donor for a transplant. This ethnography aims to demystify the taboo topic of organ transplant marketplaces.
