In a country obsessed with gossip, the great and the good fear one thing more than any other - scandal.
British scandals change the course of history. They bring down governments, overthrow the rich and cause the mighty to fall. Some are about sex, others about money. In the end, they’re all about power.
But often at the heart of a scandal, there are ordinary human stories. Stories of those caught up in the swirl of outrage.
Who was really to blame for what happened? Why did they do it? And when all is said and done, did anything really change?
From the creators of Business Wars, American Scandal and Ghost Story, comes British Scandal. Each week, hosts Alice Levine and Matt Forde delve into the murkier side of the British elite, from Phone Hacking to Profumo to the short-lived premiership of Liz Truss. Because sometimes the truth doesn’t set everyone free…

Noel and Liam | Radio legend Steve Lamacq on the most chaotic interview of his career
In 1997, Steve Lamacq thought he was interviewing Noel Gallagher live on Radio 1. So he was delighted when Liam turned up too. He knew the brothers could be unpredictable, but he didn’t know that this interview would go down in Oasis history. Their alcohol-fulled, expletive-filled argument was both radio gold and every presenter’s nightmare. Steve takes Alice Levine and Matt Forde inside that day. Plus he tells us who really won the Battle of Britpop and weighs in on the band’s future.

Avis
Why so funny?
The Guardian was spot on with its review: The show is hugely entertaining and funny but are Russian attempts to spread radioactivity all over London really amusing? It seems such an odd treatment for such a topic. The Russian murder campaign really shouldn’t be a source of amusement. How much mirth should you squeeze out of the Northern Irish Troubles or the Arab Israeli conflict?
I like a laff as much as the next man (and probably more) but I don’t think one should be joking about this. Get the two undeniably funny hosts on a show we can all laugh about. Apart from that it is true that the story script is pretty awful - real airport blockbuster writing. Nonetheless the show is compulsive and a great listen.
Cheesy
Extremely poorly written. Couldn’t stand it for more than a few minutes. Cliché piled upon cliché. The story about Mary Whitehouse was written like a third rate Mills & Boon. Dreadful.
Fact or fiction?
Good storytelling, but there should be more info what material is properly sourced and what is their invention.
Getting very judgemental at times, e.g. in the early episodes of spy cops.
