A huge Women's World Cup took place in Mexico City in 1971, complete with sponsors, paparazzi, merchandise, and a roaring crowd of over 100,000 at the opening match. But....this tournament was completely dismissed by FIFA and football national associations, and then completely erased from history! The English Football Association punished the players and manager: the team's manager Harry Batt was blacklisted for life and all the players received bans ranging between 3months and 12 from playing football. Thanks to the documentary COPA 71, these amazing players, the "Lost Lionesses," are finally getting the recognition they deserve as the movie brings this epic story back to life.
