Episode 68 - Allison Tenney, Strength Coach

Formerly a competitive elite athlete, Allison played Division I soccer at George Mason University and later played professionally with the Washington Freedom and the Seattle Sounders. She coached college athletes for over 13 years, first at Cornell University and most recently at Seattle University where she was the assistant soccer coach and high-performance manager for the women's soccer team.
She is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA-CSCS) and holds several other fitness credentials.

    Beyond Training: Ignited Womxn Summit
Alison’s passion for movement and strength training reaches beyond our impact on individual lives to a commitment to cultural change. Through years of working with women, she’s seen firsthand, the ways that women are limited and torn down by fitness industry narratives that would squeeze them into a one-size-fits-all box. In 2015 she founded the Ignited Womxn Summit, an annual wellness and leadership event designed for learning through an inclusive lens what wellness and leadership can mean so we can actively dismantle limiting narratives and systems that no longer serve us.

Episode 65 - Jane Simpson, The Pelvic Floor Bible

Have you ever laughed so much you wet yourself - just a little bit?

Or found yourself crossing your legs on the doorstep frantically searching for your keys? Do you get up at night to go to the toilet more than once?

An estimated 200 million people around the world suffer from some form of urinary incontinence. It's an embarrassing problem that affects women disproportionately as a result of pregnancy and childbirth.

In The Pelvic Floor Bible, Jane Simpson argues that it's time for us all to feel the squeeze and celebrate the wonder of our pelvic floor muscles. She shows you how to incorporate pelvic floor exercises as part of your daily routine in order to prevent issues in later life and cure existing problems now. Learn how to treat common problems such as stress incontinence, overactive bladder and prolapse, get back into shape post-pregnancy and enjoy a healthy sex life at every stage of your life.

Incontinence is both preventable and curable through pelvic floor exercises and rehabilitation but too many people assume nothing can be done, follow incorrect advice or are ashamed to seek help. We need to end the taboo now.

    Episode 64 - Meg Mathews

An icon of the nineties Brit Pop scene, Meg Mathews is a former music industry PR, events planner and designer turned entrepreneur and advocate for the menopause. In 2016. Meg turned fifty and began to experience the first symptoms of menopause. She was shocked at the lack of support and understanding shown to women during this time in their lives and made it her mission to break the stigma around the menopause. For the past few years, Meg has continued her mission on female empowerment and supporting women through the menopause. Her overall goal is to educate the general public more about the menopause as it is a greatly underrepresented subject and is not talked about enough in the media.

Episode 63 - Avrum Bluming MD + Carol Tavris PhD: Estrogen Matters

Episode 63 - Avrum Bluming MD + Carol Tavris PhD: Estrogen Matters

Estrogen Matters: Why Taking Hormones in Menopause Can Improve Women's Well-Being and Lengthen Their Lives -- Without Raising the Risk of Breast Cancer.

This brilliant, groundbreaking book, co-authored by Avrum Bluming MD and Carol Tavris PhD. tackles the confusing and often controversial subject of HRT. Realising there was so much misinformation out there, they decided to set the record straight and this book is the result. It is so well researched that it’s every scientists dream, but it’s written so that every day folk, like me, can digest the information and feel comfort in their expertise.

The show today answers many questions women have about HRT, it’s implications on heart health, breast cancer, osteoporosis and alzheimers.

Dr Bluming has spent the past two decades studying the benefits and risks of hormone replacement therapy administered to women with a history of breast cancer, with over 60% of his work focused on breast cancer.

Carol Tavris received her PhD in social psychology from the University of Michigan. Is the author of numerous books, including,Mistakes Were Made (But Not By Me) and and has received numerous awards for her efforts to promote gender equality, science, and skepticism.

I was delighted to have them on the show, in this clear, witty and informative chat on why Estrogen Matters.
