In the opening stages of the Korean War the US sent a badly underarmed, undermanned Task Force to blunt the advance of the entire North Korean military. It did not go great.

Joe and Nate talk about the time a bunch of drunken American soldiers caused a pitched battle between themselves and their allies while stationed in Australia during WWII
Correction: Indigenous Australians were given Australian citizenship at the same time other Australians (1949) however, the quality of that citizenship was not equal to that of non-indigenous Australians. This continued for decades and as many indigenous Australian activists have pointed out, continues in various forms to this day.
This included discrimination on enlistment. Some areas of Australia legally allowed indigenous people to enlist, but in practice, turned them away based on how they looked. Others were enlisted but not paid. Others were paid, but not equally and kept in segregated units and virtually none received benefits.

Kundenrezensionen
Very engaging chat with excellent content, often hilarious & often very insightful
I’m not a military man at all and not American, but if I was somehow pressganged by sketchy characters offering me dark rum in a harbour side tavern, I would be absolutely elated to come to and find myself in these peoples company. The outcomes of the battles and various misdeeds of military forces are pretty uniformly bleak: there are grifters, conmen, blood thirsty tyrants and frequently plain idiots making things terrible for almost all involved with the usual exception of themselves.
The podcast doesn’t shy away from this awfulness but it also doesn’t avoid awfulness elsewhere - the mention of Silicon Valley grifters was so spot on, it’s services are wondrous and yet we all feel ‘urgh’ about them (fruit-based ones included)
There’s a camaraderie and straight-talking which I guess is military but they’re also really clever. My knowledge of the US military before was crew-cuts and semi robotic ‘yes Sir!s and where I come from the military cult is not so strong so I never got why US politicians much less ordinary citizens want to abstractly idolise veteran serviceman. If there were more people like these podcast makers though I could completely come round to having not just respect but also admiration for those serving. Top job all round!
