The Colorado Avalanche have their backs against the wall and we will see how they respond when the go into Texas to take on the Dallas Stars for Game 5 of their second round series.

Obviously, they won't have the services of Val Nichushkin as he has begun serving his six month suspension. Some Avs players shared their thoughts on the matter after Game 4, and they were a little eye opening.

The Colorado Avalanche learned shortly before puck drop that Val Nichushkin, their best player in these playoffs, was suspended for six months due to going back into the players assistance program for a third time. What the future holds for Nichushkin off the ice is obviously not known right now. But on the ice, it is a massive loss.

It showed in Game 4 with the Dallas Stars, who now hold a 3-1 series lead after their 5-1 victory.

Not only were the Avs down Nichushkin, they were also down Devon Toews. A late scratch due to an illness, we will have to wait and see if Toews can return for Game 5.

The Colorado Avalanche needed to come out and set the tone for Game 3 vs the Dallas Stars. They were pretty successful in doing that. But hockey is a funny game, and it was the Stars who had a 1-0 lead after the first.

Normally, that wouldn't be a problem for the Avs. They have the talent and offensive ability to overcome deficits. They have done it all year. But Dallas would not allow that to happen. Sure the Avs tied it up in the 2nd, only to surrender another Dallas goal. Dallas then went into lock down mode and gave the Avs nothing.

So the question is, if the Avs change very little from game to game, is this series over?

The Colorado Avalanche found themselves down again to the Dallas Stars. This time by a score of 4-0, which proved to be too much this time. The Avs comeback was successful is Game 1, in Game 2 the had to put all their comeback eggs in the 3rd period basket, and they just ran out of time.

That is the good part of the game, but there are also some aspects to it the Avs would like to forget.

Three goals in the first period for the Dallas Stars left too much time left for the Colorado Avalanche to mount a come back, and that is exactly what they did.

Miles Wood potted the game winner in overtime and Alexandar Georgiev came up huge in the the OT session to give the Avs a 4-3 win and a 1-0 series lead.
