Volunteers are integral to the work we do at Novant Health. They are often the first touch made when our patients walk in the door and the last smile or hug as they depart us. In this episode we celebrate one special volunteer, Paul Finke, that turned 100 years old on March 12, 2020 and chose to spend it doing what he loves...volunteering at Novant Health Huntersville Medical Center. Paul is a valued member of the Novant Health family and dedicated fixture at the facility!

Tara Box tells the poignant story of the loss of her Border Collie, Bella, during her transition into a new role at Novant Health. Not only was Tara juggling the learning curve at work, she was managing her emotions as she navigated the expectancy of losing Bella, the only family she had in a new city. Nick Sullivan is the proud parent of Paige, who just happens to have been diagnosed with a rare heart condition at just three months old. Nick is also the system administrative executive of Novant Health's Neuroscience and Psychiatry Institute...no stranger to healthcare at its highest level. But in this case, he is DAD. Listen as Nick shares their family's experience, their lessons and how this journey made him a better administrator and made Paige an author! They both encourage us to 'Embrace your cape,' like a superhero and conquer your fears.

Giving birth can be one of the most amazing experiences, until it isn't. A complicated birth or unexpected experience can lead to anxiety and sadness. For one mom at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center, the situation couldn't have been more scary. After giving birth by c-section and additional complications, she was separated from her baby to get more specialized care in hopes of a speedy recovery. What she didn't expect were two nurses with McGyver-like skills and big hearts that gave her the support and encouragement to endure long enough to experience her first precious moments with her new baby since birth. Ashley Hendricks, RN and Ashley Black, RN, MSN and Assistant Nurse Manager give us the scoop.

When it comes to patients, Novant Health Rowan Medical Center's team will go above and beyond to make sure that they have a remarkable experience. And for the team in the intensive care unit (ICU), this meant orchestrating a wedding.
