The Rest Is History

I had been listening to this very nice podcast already before the series on the start of the First World War, and it really blew my mind. Reflecting the overall podcast, this series in particular is very detailed, informed and goes beyond the classically admitted clichés; while keeping a touch of, admittedly very British, humour.

Absolutely brilliant investment of your time as you find out about all the history that you couldn’t possibly have studied at school, told to you by two hugely entertaining, intelligent and informative hosts. This is history in depth but as a laugh. The only caveat is that you sometimes wonder whether you should be laughing at the horrific tragedies that are often retold. These events happened and people suffered dreadfully and sometimes unimaginably and yet, after perhaps a century or more has passed, they are just historical stories that we can now all chortle about. This does make me feel a little uneasy but I can’t help laughing along as Dominic and Tom are just so hilariously funny. Perhaps the human condition is so wretched that the only proper response is laughter in the face of absurdity. A uniquely British, it seems to me, take on history. Just a fantastic podcast. Podcasting was made for this.

Love the banter and their chemistry. I would listen to those two read the phone book.

Never enjoyed history - dull. This podcast is great. Gossipy, hilarious -full of the juicy bits that get cut from mainstream curricula.
