Responsible tech in the age of attention economy

Podcasts raises important questions about who is responsible for polarizing content in the age of attention economy, when the race for more likes and more engagement is all that matters. The easiest way towards more engagement lies through outrage-provoking content, and that is where current algorithms steer the viewer.
The guests on this podcast are the experts with unique experience in positions of power in tech companies. Listening to their interviews is a delight and is immensely thought provoking. I recommend this podcast to all my students, hoping it would make them pause and think next time they’re pushed towards more scrolling, more likes, next video.

Freedom of reach is not absolute

Excellent thought provoking conversations. How digital technologies change us - without us noticing. How we choose to continue watching YouTube videos, as we are “recommended” similar content. How « manufactured consent » appears with sheer numbers - even if it has nothing to do with reality. How we are looking for social media content to reinforce our biases. How every human is seeking social validation and quantity becomes quality. « Make it trend - make it true ».

Its not always easy to understand all nuances of the conversation - and then I need to listen again. I believe that being aware of these issues equips us to deal better with the digital reality. Even if only by a small margin.
