The Creator becomes a creature and dwells among his people, revealing God’s glory – to those who can see it.  Jesus makes the way for the time when he will cleanse us of our sin, in order that God can dwell with man in an even more personal way.

Why did Jesus start his ministry by turning water to wine instead of, say, raising the dead?  The answer is in understanding the prophetic nature of the first three events in Jesus’ ministry, then brought together in Jesus’ encounter with the Samaritan woman at the well.

Jesus asks the man by the pool at Bethesda a significant question "Do you want to get well?"  John expands on the themes of the LIFE he has come to bring: quality not just quantity.

Jesus lists five witnesses testifying to his authority.  No wonder the authorities cannot see that the scriptures point to him, they do not believe.  Only through faith and the work of the Holy Spirit is the veil taken away.

The people were more interest in the food for their stomachs Jesus provided.  He, however, was talking about a different food altogether; not just manna from heaven, but LIFE itself!  Jesus subsequently declares “I AM the bread of life.”

Jesus goes down to the Festival of Tabernacles where the central themes are water and light.  As the religious leaders plot to kill him, Jesus speaks of living water and claims to be the light of the world.
