Welcome to the Ink Feather Podcast, which explores the worlds of sci-fi and fantasy books through those who bring them to life. Every other week we chat with authors and industry pros about their books, including new releases and old favorites. I’m Lauren and this is episode 38, where I chat with bestselling author Patricia Briggs!

In this interview I chat with Patty about her newest Mercy Thompson book, SMOKE BITTEN, but we also spend a lot of time chatting about urban fantasy in general, what it's like writing such a long-running fantasy series, why she puts her characters through the wringer, and more. We also chat a lot about other urban fantasy authors and series we both love, so if that's a genre you're into, you're in luck! This is also a great episode for someone who hasn't read these books, as there's lots of good details about writing and plotting in general without too many specifics to confuse new readers. All this and more in this episode!

Some of the authors she mentions:
    Laurell K Hamilton
    Tanya Huff
    Illona Andrews
    Jim Butcher
    Charlaine Harris
    Kim Harrison
    JD Robb
    Lois McMaster Bujold

Welcome to the Ink Feather Podcast, which explores the worlds of sci-fi and fantasy books through those who bring them to life. Every other week we chat with authors and industry pros about their books, including new releases and old favorites. I’m Lauren and this is episode 36, where I chat with bestselling author Cassandra Clare!

I’m so glad I got to sit down and chat with Cassie about her upcoming novel CHAIN OF GOLD, and we cover lots of great topics! I started by seeing how her life has been over the past few years with all the books and movie/tv stuff. We then get some insight into where CHAIN OF GOLD came from by taking us through the creation of The Infernal Devices and how that lead to these new characters. She talks about the unique writing challenges that come with a book that has both a past and a future locked in, and how she still kept the story surprising. We dig into her amazing connection with fans, work-life balance, and the importance of putting fuel in your creative tank. We also talk about what it was like writing a queer character in a time period that can’t use today’s verbiage. We also spend a bit of time talking about her upcoming adult novel SWORD CATCHER, what it was like writing in a new world and as an adult fantasy. All this and more on this episode of the Ink Feather Podcast!

I’m Lauren and this is episode 36, where I chat about THE DARK IS RISING SEQUENCE by Susan Cooper with bestselling authors Amie Kaufman and Garth Nix.

This episode has been a long time coming, and I'm so glad I was able to finally bring it to life. This is the book series that got me into loving fantasy, and over the years of interviewing authors, I found so many like-minded souls. I knew I wanted to have a conversation about these books, and I was able to get Amie Kaufman (The Illuminae Files) and Garth Nix (Sabriel) to join me!

We discuss myth and legend, Susan's writing, the emotional connection we have with these books, and so much more! I hope you enjoy this episode as much as I do!

Every other week we chat with authors and industry pros about their books, including new releases and old favorites. I’m Lauren and this is episode 35, where I chat with bestselling author Adam Silvera!

It was lovely talking to Adam about his first fantasy book, INFINITY SON! We delved into the history of this story and the importance of fantasy to him. We talk about what it was like writing magic systems, how he chose to pace the plot, and also about mental health and work-life balance.

There are lots of fun Harry Potter references, good humor, and a really insightful conversation into the writing and creating process of one of today's most popular authors. I hope you enjoy!
