Julian is … QUILTBAG Story Time
Jessica Love has created two beautiful children’s books that celebrate inclusion, and being your authentic self.
Julian is a Mermaid
A glimpse of three women dressed as mermaids leaves one boy filled with wonder and ready to dazzle the world.
While riding the subway home with his Nana one day, Julian notices three women spectacularly dressed up. Their hair billows in brilliant hues, their dresses end in fishtails, and their joy fills the train carriage.
When Julian gets home, daydreaming of the magic he’s seen, all he can think about is dressing up just like the ladies and making his own fabulous mermaid costume. But what will Nana think about the mess he makes – and even more importantly – what will she think about how Julian sees himself?

Julian at the Wedding
The star of Julian Is a Mermaid makes a joyful return – and finds a new friend – at a wedding to be remembered. Julian and his nana are attending a wedding.
Better yet, Julian is in the wedding along with his cousin Marisol. When wedding duties are fulfilled and with a new dog friend in tow, the pair takes off to roam the venue, exploring everywhere from underneath tables to enchanting willow trees to … muddy puddles? After all, it wouldn’t be a wedding without fun, laughter and a little magical mischief. With ingenuity and heart, author-illustrator Jessica Love tells a charming story of friendship, acceptance and celebration.

Baby Shower Scrapes Knees and Blows Minds on Brekky Radio
They may be full of attitude but dunked in self-awareness, Baby Shower are the brazen Melbourne punk band you wouldn’t take home to gran. Their lyrics are witty and humorous and relatable to any self deprecating young person.
Joining us live in the studio this morning for our Mega Music Friday is Sean, Alison and Sunny from Baby Shower. You can find more from Baby Shower via their instagram @ Baby Shower Band and get your ears around their music wherever you get good music from!

KUČKA New Music – Heavyweight
To continue on our Massive Music Friday we are joined in the studio by another incredible Australian Artist
‘Heavyweight’ is the new single from powerhouse electronic producer and songwriter KUČKA, the last drop ahead of her sophomore album Can You Hear Me Dreaming?, out Friday 12 July
Since debuting in 2015 with a breakout EP that won best electronic act, best single, best experimental act and breakthrough producer at the WAM Awards in Australia: KUČKA has collaborated with some incredible names: from A$AP Rocky to Vince Staples to Kendrick Lamar to Flume to SOPHIE. But while these fragments offered great promise for KUČKA, it can often be hard to really hear the person underneath that cameo. On her solo full-length ‘Wrestling’ we hear what Laura Jane Lowther really offers: the realisation of years spent in serene studios stitching R&B, jazz, new age and electro influences into autobiographical stories for growth, love and journeying. -
Dr Cat and Dinosaur Feathers
We’ve played with dinosaur toys as kids – but what we remember from childhood might not be quite accurate. Many dinosaurs actually had feathers. While this idea has been floating around for a few years, new research has tried to pinpoint when dinosaurs adopted their feathers.
Our singing scientist Dr Cat joins us for a chat that really ruffled Rach and Paul’s feathers
