In honor of pride month and the three year anniversary of the song, The Archers return to Season 2 with a celebratory analysis of the high camp music video for “You Need To Calm Down”! With the help of the fellow Gaylors listed above, Katie and Madyson discuss the video’s subtle nods to lesbian country singer Chely Wright, Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit, Girls by the 1975, and *another* stonewall reference. They discuss the meaning of queer baiting and how accusations of it might have affected the video’s final cut.

Katie & Madyson deep dive into the rabbit hole that is Taylor Swift's debut, particularly five of her biggest hits from her self-titled album. They find bait-and-switches, bearded pronouns, storytelling that mirrors folklore, religious guilt, and sapphic themes. Listen to them discover the demo lyrics for Picture To Burn and Teardrops On My Guitar, and find out that Taylor was inspired by lesbian singer-songwriter Melissa Etheridge. Along with queer lyrical analysis, the archers decode cryptic lyrics that listeners were puzzled by. What's more queer than windows, wrecking plans, rhinestones, mental illness, and honey?

After meeting in person for the first time (!) and hosting a very successful Gaylor Trivia, Madyson and Katie record an episode live and in person. They use this time to delve into the treasure trove of gaylor folklore (gaylore) that is Taylor's 2017 version of emojis: Taymojis. Follow along with us at the Taymoji Wiki as we examine some of Taylor's earliest and potent hairpin drops and symbols: https://taylorswift.fandom.com/wiki/Taymojis. By the end of the episode, you'll feel as re-energized about being gay4tay as we are!

Madyson and Katie are joined by Renaissance and Sunny from The Lavender Menace Podcast, two fellow gaylor podcasters who also have a lot to say about one of Taylor Swift's most underrated albums: Reputation. Each of them do a lyrical deep dive into a song from reputation: Sunny proves why "Dress" is sapphic text, Madyson compares "Dancing With Our Hands Tied" to Taylor's themes of secrecy, Renaissance questions why Taylor doesn't see her boyfriend in "Gorgeous, and Katie's virgo moon gives a critical reading of "This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things". The four gaylors share their journeys of being queer Taylor Swift fans and reflect on both sides of the Kanye fued in an attempt to contextualize TIWWCHNT, and end up theorizing that it could be about someone else.
