This work of historical fiction is presented as a serial radio drama, to be released in nine weekly installments.

Episode One: Summons
Maddox, a sailor recovering from a brush with malaria in Boston, receives a note from his old employer asking him to resume his position as first mate to the August, a merchant ship bound for England. Accepting the offer, Maddox meets his new captain and finds the August a ship's doctor.

Episode Two: Yarns
Third Mate Cecil Lawrence brings the new midshipman, James Douglas, on board the August. Douglas meets Teague and Maddox, and gets accustomed to ship life. The next night as the ship gets underway, the officers regale Douglas with tales of a disastrous past voyage.

Episode Three: Corruption
Content Warning: This episode contains instances of homophobia, violent bigotry, and racism. A week out of port, Maddox navigates new relationships and old. The captain questions Maddox's past judgment and shares suspicions he has of Leon. A storm brews on the horizon.

Episode Four: Murder
Content warning: Violence and racism. Sophia and Douglas's newfound friendship is interrupted by a run-in with the captain. Sophia overhears an argument between Maddox and Blackwall and is called upon to keep a secret.

Episode Five: Riot
Content warning: Violence. Lawrence and Douglas discuss the marked absence of Captain Blackwall. The next day, Teague and Lawrence spot an omen as Maddox prepares to make an explanation to the crew.

Episode Six: Mutiny
Leon attends the crew on his rounds and has a conversation with Maddox about their next course of action before Maddox addresses the crew. Then Leon pulls Sophia away from the ensuing chaos, and they talk about devils known and unknown.
