A show that analyzes four critical elections in United States history - 1860, 1896, 1932, and 1968 - comically explored by hosts Jared Tetreau and Nate Kolmodin. The show uses critical realignment theory to explain why certain elections affect change, what those elections look like, and what these moments of rapid change and reaction through the ballot box can tell us about where we're going in the future.

Episode Four: The Election of 1932. Happy Days Are Here Again! Jk, Life is Cruel and Ends in Death.

In this episode, Jared and Nate discuss the election of 1932, the rise of a new social democratic consensus in America, and the creation of the New Deal Coalition under the leadership of Jared's favorite president Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Ninety percent of this one is just Jared fangirling over a man that's been dead for 76 years, but in the remaining ten percent, the team looks into the failures of the Hoover Administration, the contours of the Great Depression, and how the rise of the New Deal provided a new foundation of citizenship in the United States. Plus, Nate endorses Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson for President.

In this episode, Jared and Nate suffer from deja vu by discussing rising populism and crushing inequality in the election of 1896. The team takes a look at the presidency of Grover Cleveland, the birth of modern campaigning and the modern presidency, the emergence of American progressivism, the obnoxiousness of William Jennings Bryan, and the crazy intensity with which people used to debate insanely boring things like monetary policy. Also, Nate shares his thoughts on Virginia Senator Tim Kaine and Jared gives a crash course in economics.

Also, the team talks about the enduring impacts of this realignment and the startling similarities between the election of 1860 and the election of 2020. Plus, Jared learns about the weird names that Sarah Palin gave her children.
