E18 Unforgiven Betrayal: The Festering Wound of Bitterness

E18 Unforgiven Betrayal: The Festering Wound of Bitterness

E18 Unforgiven Betrayal: The Festering Wound of Bitterness
Have you ever experienced a betrayal that you allowed to fester into bitterness? Betrayal is the external thing someone else does to you, but bitterness is the internal thing you do to yourself.
In today’s episode, we listen to a clip from Pastor Vlad Savchuk (@vladhungrygen) about betrayal vs. bitterness. Cosmo shares a personal story of betrayal and bitterness and how God revealed this distinction to him in a very impactful way that allowed him to forgive his betrayer – even without repentance. We also explore how a healed wound’s scar can be a stone of remembrance of God’s faithfulness.

Matthew 11:28-30…“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Go to Jesus with your wounds to be healed.

E17 True or False? When you meet the right person, you’ll just know...

E17 True or False? When you meet the right person, you’ll just know...

E17 True or False? When you meet the right person, you’ll just know...
There will be a chorus of angels, arrows flashing, and a bright light emanating from them… If only!!

    FALSE!!

We lived the opposite of this one! Not only did we have no interest in each other when we first met, it took us 5 years to “just know!”

This is the fifth episode in our myth-busting series where we break down the difference between the world's attitude and expectations of relationships versus the Soul-Anchored view.

In this episode, we bust the myth that when you meet the person you are supposed to marry, you’ll just know.

The reality is, you might not even like or be attracted to them at first! Furthermore, you might not BE the right person for them at first. In other words, the chemistry might take time because lasting, bonding chemistry is formed through internal character qualities - loyalty, joy, hope.

We’ll share two stories of love NOT at first sight – our own and that of a couple of friends of ours. We share how initial disinterest led to interest as we took the time to be interested in them as well as being interesting to them as you live a life in God’s grand adventure.

Have you believed this relationship myth - consciously or subconsciously? What can you do to make sure you've busted it in your mind so it doesn't creep into your relationships?

E16 True or False? You’ll Only Ever Be Halfway Happy

E16 True or False? You’ll Only Ever Be Halfway Happy

E16 True or False? You’ll Only Ever Be Halfway Happy
    FALSE!!

We’ve heard it a million times – “If you want a good relationship, it’s all about compromise.” We strongly disagree! Through commitment, communication, and genuine understanding, we think you can be full-on happy!

This is the fourth episode in our myth-busting series where we break down the difference between the world's attitude and expectations of relationships versus the Soul-Anchored view.

In this episode, we bust the myth that you should just get used to being only ever halfway happy. We find this often happens when we have the wrong view of what conflict is for and therefore approach it from the viewpoint that it is all about someone winning and someone else losing.

We broke this concept down in great detail in this episode.

“Relationships are all about compromise” – or are they? We believe they’re about understanding the other’s perspective, why things make them feel loved / understood, and wanting to work with them to a mutually beneficial solution.

Following the example of Christ, we can find true solutions to this world’s problems, resulting in peace, unity, and joy.

Have you believed this relationship myth - consciously or subconsciously? What can you do to make sure you've busted it in your mind so it doesn't creep into your relationships?

E15 True or False? Put (Only) Your Best Foot Forward

E15 True or False? Put (Only) Your Best Foot Forward

Do you think you're awkward? Awesome! Let it shine!
I’ve met very few people who don’t consider themselves to be awkward in one way or another. That leads me to believe that our unique awkwardnesses are part of what makes us awesome!

This is the third episode in our myth-busting series where we break down the difference between the world's attitude and expectations of relationships versus the Soul-Anchored view.

In this episode, we bust the myth that when you are getting to know someone, you should only put forward your best, most socially acceptable self. But we think that you should put forward your authentic self, no matter what!

Awkward isn’t bad. We’re all awkward in our own ways! Awkward can be very attractive to the right person. Know how and why you are awkward and be confident in it - own it!

If you’re interested in friendship or another kind of relationship, don’t play hard to get. Playing games shows a lack of maturity. If you like someone, feel free to tell them what you like about them. One of the nicest things anyone ever said to me was, “I like you. Let’s be friends.”

We also spend a little time on the difference between Authenticity and Vulnerability – a bit topic we’ll dive into more in the future.

Have you believed this relationship myth - consciously or subconsciously? What can you do to make sure you've busted it in your mind so it doesn't creep into your relationships?

E14 True or False: The Best Relationships Include Mind Reading

E14 True or False: The Best Relationships Include Mind Reading

True or False? The Best Relationships Include Mind Reading
    FALSE!!

Even if you really care about someone and know them very well, you will NOT always know what they are thinking, much less what they need.

This is the second episode in our myth-busting series where we break down the difference between the world's attitude and expectations of relationships versus the Soul Anchored view.

You'll learn that in the world's economy, it's great and expected for you to be in relationships to get from others. When it gets hard (like when you have disagreements, feel disconnected, struggle communicating, experience hurt feelings), it’s ok to just give up / walk away. And “Chemistry” is something you either have or you don’t.

But in Soul-Anchored Relationships, you approach any relationship with two goals in mind:

Getting to know the other person
Letting the other person get to know you

This opens the door to authenticity and curiosity. We get to be curious about others by asking questions about how things make them feel, what they think, etc. And they reciprocate so that can both be known and understood.

In this episode we bust the myth that "In good relationships, you can read one another’s minds."

This concept often masquerades as the most ridiculous statement, ever:

“If you loved me, you would just know…”
We talk about how this mentality:

    Dishonors the other person
Creates a false narrative that I always know what it is I want
Ignores the beauty of communication that uncovers wants and needs
    Manipulates the other person

Have you believed this relationship myth - consciously or subconsciously? What can you do to make sure you've busted it in your mind so it doesn't creep into your relationships?

E13 True or False: The Best Relationships Never Have Conflict

E13 True or False: The Best Relationships Never Have Conflict

True or False? The Best Relationships Never Have Conflict
    FALSE!!

Relationships are always between two unique people with many facets and loads of complexity. Therefore, there will be conflict! There will be points of disagreement and tension - and that's a GOOD thing!

This is the first episode in our myth-busting series where we break down the difference between the world's attitude and expectations of relationships versus the Soul Anchored view.

You'll learn that in the world's economy, it's great and expected for you to be in relationships to get from others. When it gets hard (like when you have disagreements, feel disconnected, struggle communicating, experience hurt feelings), it’s ok to just give up / walk away. This opens the door to authenticity and curiosity. We get to be curious about others by asking questions about how things make them feel, what they think, etc. And they reciprocate so that can both be known and understood.

In this episode we bust the myth that "In good relationships, there must be 100% agreement on everything."

We highlight some key concepts such as:

    Mirroring can be dangerous
    Change is inevitable and ok
Differences can cause positive stress as they add to mystery, growth, and discovery
We need to leave space for personal expression
    Working through differences bonds us

Have you believed this relationships myth - consciously or subconsciously? What can you do to make sure you've busted it in your mind so it doesn't creep into your relationships?
