03: TE Studio - The Passive House

Today I talk with Tim Eian about TE Studio's primary focus: Passive House design–the world’s leading voluntary building energy standard focusing on superior energy efficiency and quality of life at low operating cost. From TEstudio.com: While originating in Germany, the founders of Passive House were deeply inspired by the energy conservation movement in the U.S. in the 1970s. We feel that Passive House in the U.S represents a perfect blend of the American spirit of invention combined with German engineering. We pioneered this world-class standard in the U.S. to provide our clients with measurable, leading-edge performance and results. We successfully designed Passive House buildings in one of the most challenging climates on earth and welcome the opportunity to do the same for you wherever you are.WATCH this episode at www.midwestarchdesign.com.

    02: Plaad Architects

For me, one of the most challenging things is naming things, and when a name fits like a glove it is incredibly satisfying. So you can imaging that one of the things that I was eager to talk about with Mark Stankey and Matt Byers was the name "PLAAD", which is an acronym for the Practice of Lasting Art, Architecture and Design... I mean, come on. So good. Mark is an award-winning designer and while Matt excels at design, his particular strengths are in project management and building science. They also have individuals within their firm with substantial experience in the residential construction industry. They have diverse backgrounds and interests but one common goal: to create thoughtful and timeless architecture, while providing meaningful, personal, and dedicated service to each of their clients. You can watch this interview with Pladd in their office at www.midwestarchdesign.com and visit Plaad at www.plaadoffice.com.
