Which coaches can work their way off the hot seat? | The NCAA has chosen the hill on which to die

Which coaches can work their way off the hot seat? | The NCAA has chosen the hill on which to die

It’s a Dear Andy show, but before we get to your questions, there is a ton of news to discuss…

(0:00-13:16) Intro: More Kickoff Times Announced
(13:17-24:31) Pete Nakos Joins to break down Transfer Portal Settlement
(24:32-28:44) Governance of College Sports moving forward
    (28:45-28:59) Dear Andy Intro
(29:00-34:59) Hot Seat Watch - Recap of Eliah Drinkwitz and Neal Brown
    (35:00-43:27) Billy Napier
    (43:28-47:59) Sam Pittman
    (48:00-51:07) Dave Aranda
(51:08-57:26) Colorado Miss Bowl Game AND Travis Hunter win Heisman?
(57:25-59:03) Arch Manning takes over or Non-Power 2 Champion?
(59:04-1:09:10) SEC Trips on November 9th and 16th for Jim
    (1:09:11-1:10:20) Wrapping up the week
    (1:10:21-1:12:37) Northwestern's Temporary Home

The SEC dropped a bunch of early-season kickoff times Thursday and — more importantly — promised to deliver the kickoff times for most of the rest of the season on June 11. Of note, the first SEC edition of the Red River Rivalry will kick off at 3:30 p.m. ET/2:30 p.m. CT. Also, the Egg Bowl (Mississippi State at Ole Miss) and Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate (Georgia Tech at Georgia) are moving to Black Friday.

In other news, the NCAA settled a federal lawsuit with the Department of Justice and various state attorneys general over transfer rules. Essentially, there won’t be any. On3’s Pete Nakos will explain why the NCAA rolled over on an issue that has a huge effect on football and basketball.

Now it’s time for your questions…

Which coaches could make an off-the-hot-seat comeback the way West Virginia’s Neal Brown did last year?

Could two-way Colorado star Travis Hunter win the Heisman Trophy if the Buffaloes don’t make a bowl game?

Which SEC games should Jim from Michigan attend in November?

What is more likely: Arch Manning takes over for Ewers during the season, or a non-Power 2 school wins the Natty?

    (1:00:34-1:02:04) Conclusion - Dear Andy to andystapleson3@gmail.com

Tuesday was the first day of the On3 Elite Series and the first day of SEC spring meetings, so we have much to discuss.

On3’s Jesse Simonton joins the show from Destin, Fla., where he talked to Georgia coach Kirby Smart, Florida coach Billy Napier, Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin and more as the coaches convened for their meetings.

In Nashville, Andy talked to Jacksonville, Fla., receiver Jamie Ffrench, who turned heads at the Elite Series and who is about to embark on official visits before deciding in August from a group of schools that includes Texas, Ohio State, Tennessee, Miami and LSU.

And also chatted with Haley and Hanna Cavinder about their return to college basketball at Miami after a year away from the sport. The Cavinders were trailblazers in the NIL world, so what advice do they have for the future football stars convened in Nashville?

Next, Andy talks Missouri Tigers with quarterback Matt Zollers. The Pennsylvanian was the first player to commit to Missouri’s class of 2025, and he’s now helping Tigers coach Eli Drinkwitz put the rest of the class together.

Which SEC coach runs the meeting now? | Saying goodbye to Bill Walton

It’s day one of the SEC spring meetings in Destin and also day one of the On3 Elite Series in Nashville, so Andy has a lot to talk about with On3’s J.D. Pickell and Pete Nakos.

    0:00 Intro
2:19 SEC Spring Meetings Begin from Destin
    6:11 SEC Spring Meetings Discussion
    11:29 Billy Napier, Florida Discussion
    21:58 Being a top recruit in 2024
    38:40 NIL Discussion
    44:10 12 Team CFP
    49:00 Future of College Football
    51:52 In-N-Out Fries and USC's Defense
    55:08 Remembering Bill Walton
    58:37 Conclusion

At the SEC meetings in Destin, commissioner Greg Sankey spent Monday night discussing all the big changes coming to college sports following last week’s House v. NCAA settlement. Tuesday will bring all the SEC’s football coaches to their meeting, which will be the first since 2007 without Nick Saban. Florida coach Billy Napier is likely to get asked about quarterback Jaden Rashada’s lawsuit against him.

Meanwhile, the On3 Elite Series starts Tuesday. Dozens of the best recruits in the class of 2025 will join us in Nashville. Andy, J.D. and Pete discuss what it’s like to be a top recruit in 2025. They also imagine their ideal official visit.

Also, the guys pay tribute to UCLA legend Bill Walton, who passed Monday at 71. Walton was a generational player for John Wooden’s Bruins and an accomplished NBA player, and his work later in life as a commentator on Pac-12 basketball games brought joy to everyone who stayed up to watch.

The conferences vote to settle House v. NCAA, so how will college football work now?

The SEC and Pac-12 joined the ACC, Big Ten and Big 12 in voting Thursday to settle the House vs. NCAA case. With the NCAA also agreeing to settle, the wheels are in motion for schools to pay athletes directly once a federal judge approves the settlement.

    (0:00-4:14) Intro
(4:15-18:44) Pete Nakos joins to recap the House v NCAA settlement
    (18:45-25:04) Thoughts of the Collectives
    (25:05-31:13) Staffs for Football Teams
    (31:14-39:29) Fontenot v NCAA case
    (39:30-43:55) Revenue Sharing - Moneyball
    (43:56-46:02) Basketball Schools
    (46:03-51:19) Scholarship Limits
    (51:20-55:02) Jaden Rashada update
    (55:03-55:19) Conclusion

On3’s Pete Nakos joins Andy to discuss how college sports will work if the settlement goes through. Pete also will explain how a decision in another federal case on Thursday could potentially affect the House settlement.

What happens to collectives? How will players get paid? What football programs are best positioned to take advantage of the new world?

Andy and Pete may not have all the answers, but neither do the people in charge at the moment.
