This week we look at the investigation of Lake and Ng’s crimes, the discovery of Ng’s location, and the long legal battle that followed.

Following a slew of disappearances around San Francisco in the summer and fall of 1984, Leonard Lake turns his attention back to Operation Miranda and the procurement of a new victim for his dark fantasies as the winter of 1985 comes to a close.

With Charles Ng’s release from federal custody, he makes his way to California to rejoin Leonard Lake. Making their base of operations in San Francisco, the two men begin targeting residents of the “Pink Palace” in the cities storied Haight-Ashbury district.

With his marriage to Cricket finalized and Ng incarcerated in Kansas, Leonard Lake begins a slow spiral of sex and drug dealing that leads to his first known murder.

On June 2nd, 1985 Ng Chi-tat fled a hardware store after attempting to steal a vice. Throwing into the waiting trunk of a nearby car, he disappeared on foot. When police arrived and questioned the driver of the car, Leonard Lake, was searched and arrested. After Lake committed suicide days later, the police began looking into the activities of he and Ng, the story that began to unfold was like a living nightmare.
