    La llorona

    La llorona

Hello everyone, have you ever heard of myths and

legends? In places like Colombia these myths and legends go from generation to

generation scaring children and adults. there are places like towns, forests,

mountains or rivers where people say they are afraid to see or hear the

characters in these stories. We know some myths and legends such as: el

sombrerón, el mohán, la patasola, la llorona and la madre monte. They are all

scary but of these there is one that scares us the most and that is la llorona.

join us and we will tell you more about her.

    La Llorona

The llorona is a wandering woman who carries a child through the streets. She’s muddy, wild-eyed and dressed in rags and never shows her face. Some legends say she screams for aid, but anyone who carries the infant inherits the curse to become the new llorona. The spirit is said to stalk lonely places and appear to anyone plotting mischief. Some say she was a jealous woman who killed the child’s mother in rage. Others that she was a desperate wife who killed herself, and a child she had with her lover, when she heard her errant husband was returning from war. The story of the wailing woman is particularly popular in eastern Colombia, in the region known as Los Llanos.

My maternal grandfather heard her in a river going down, around 6 in the afternoon saw her and covered her face with long hair, he turned around and only heard her lament, and my grandfather’s brother  heard her going to the house on the same river where my grandfather saw it.

These are some myths and legends that I have been able to find and that they told me, probably many of us have something to tell since La Llorona is very famous and behind this there are many stories

Have a great day, until next time.

and remember that we are Alison Mera, Daniel Quintero, and Erika Vera
