Ep3: Financial Independence & Value, with Jamie (Sound of Fractures) and CY Lee

Today’s focus is on financial independence. Within the JUICE framework, we believe that freedom to operate and scale your endeavours requires independence from outside influence and inhibitors.

And so for today's conversation we wanted to explore this topic with people coming from a couple of different angles. From the independent artist side, we have Jamie, who goes under the name Sound of Fractures, and from the music fan side, we have CY Lee.

Interestingly, as you’ll see, the conversation moves very quickly from the challenges of being financially independent in the music industries, and towards fundamental questions around the value of music itself in the modern digital age.

Within this discussion, we explore what it even means to be an artist nowadays and whether, in fact, musicians should be thinking more about network value rather than the specific value that their tracks are generating. Leading to questions around how those artists can benefit more from the value that is generated around their work.

    Hosts: Dan Fowler, Vaughn McKenzie-Landell

Ep2: Information and Knowledge, with Cherie Hu

The music industry is infamous for its complexity and nuance. Experience and understanding are expensive to acquire and inefficiently transferred. Information and knowledge are hard to come by. Unfortunately, all too often, this leads to repetition and failures by music tech founders, due to a lack of frameworks for success.

But why is this the case? Is this an issue specific to music tech or more of a general challenge? And what can we do better?

This week Vaughn and Dan are joined by Cherie Hu, founder of Water & Music, to dive deep into the subject of information and knowledge.
