4-H has played an important role for many people, especially in the rural parts of our country. Today we’re checking in with Bethel’s 4-H Program Coordinator Meltina Uta, known locally as “Tina”.

Alaska Legal Services has played an important role in the history of rural Alaskans asserting their rights. It is still working in the state, and joining us for Coffee today is Maggie Humm, the Executive Director of Alaska Legal Services. Speaking with her is KYUK’s Gabby Salgado.

Alaska scientist Diane O’Brien has been appointed to the National Academy of Science. O’Brien is Director of the Institute of Arctic Biology at the University of Alaska in Fairbanks. Some of her research was in the Yukon Kuskokwim Delta.Also on the phone to speak with her is KYUK’s Steve Heimel.

The YK Delta has the highest suicide rate in Alaska. Our guests this morning are two people working on getting more resources to deal with what can be an overwhelming problem.Tiffany Vassar is Contributions and Events Senior Manager at GCI, and Jessie Lavoie is Director of Programs and Grants at the Alaska Community Foundation.
