    Easter Sunday | 4.12.20

We at Trinity have been on a journey together. From the intimacy of Maundy Thursday, we entered into the sorrow of Good Friday and then embraced the solemnity of the Easter Vigil. Now we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus. We leave the darkness of sin’s dominion to join in the rousing chorus, “Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” (1 Corinthians 15:54-55).

Easter is the capstone of the Christian calendar. It was literally the dawn of new life. All four Gospels describe this pivotal moment when some of Jesus’ female disciples went to the tomb at the break of day. They came in the darkness, burdened by grief and crushed expectations. Then the sun edged over the horizon and revealed an empty tomb! After hearing the glorious news of Jesus’ resurrection, “they departed quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to tell His disciples” (Matthew 28:8).

The first Easter service happened at sunrise. And because the first proclamation of “He is risen” happened at the first light of day, Christians have celebrated the Easter sunrise service for hundreds of years. Of all times, this year seems to be the moment for us to join in this practice of a sunrise service. He is risen and we are risen in Him!

Palm Sunday , April 5, 2020 Worship Service

Once again we are joining our hearts together this week using a digital worship service. While we long for the day when we see one another face to face, we are also putting our hope in the Lord, that He is with us and that the Holy Spirit is moving in our hearts and in our homes as we gather in together in the Name of Jesus.

This week our worship format has changed slightly. On the recommendation of our medical advisory team, we are taking further precautions and having our liturgists, musicians, and preacher all lead us from separate places, and we are using video editing to create this service. Our liturgists are Walter and Toni Kim, our musicians are the Wardell family, and our preacher is Wade Bradshaw. We've also prepared a special Palm Sunday prelude from our children's choir. During this service, you'll also hear about some of our plans for Holy Week, which will be followed by a more detailed email coming Monday morning with service times and details for the week.

    Offering:

Please take time before beginning the video to set up online giving or prepare a check to be mailed to PO Box 5102, Charlottesville, VA 22905-5102. Your offering is an act of worship that will help our church during this time continue to glorify God as we seek to love each other and our neighbors.

    Worship Service:

    1) Here is the video of the service, with ASL interpretation. This is not a "livestream" service. You are free to listen to the service whenever it works for you and you will not miss anything by watching it later.

    2) Here are the regular Order of Worship and the Large Print Order of Worship. Engage in worship, sing out loud, and at the Spirit's prompting feel the freedom to push pause and enter more deeply into the life of God.

    Children:

    • Children's Packet

    • Instructions for making paper palm fronds

    • Guided meditation video for kids on today's passage from John. If you have a candle, please get it ready to light alongside Elizabeth in the video. For younger children we’d suggest letting them color the pictures mentioned above as they listen or have them work with play dough or another manipulative. Feel free to press pause and answer the wondering questions as a family!

Let's join our hearts in worship together this Palm Sunday morning!

Sunday Worship Service, March 29, 2020

Once again, we are worshiping today using video rather than being together in body. We're also being very sensitive to our local and commonwealth guidelines about meeting sizes, and you'll notice this week that we've significantly scaled back the number of people involved in the service, as well as editing the video so that we don't all have to be in the room at once. But we know that when even when just a few of us gather in His Name, God promises to be present with us in a mysterious way. We hope this video service is a means of helping us gather today to worship our Lord!

    Children's Bulletins:

For today's service we have included a coloring page with several illustrations of doves—a traditional symbol of the Holy Spirit. You can print this or encourage your children to draw their own doves using these inspirations. Additionally there is a pattern for making an origami dove. Make a few paper doves to put up in your home or on your prayer table to remind you of the Holy Spirit's presence with you! We have also included our normal older children's Sunday bulletin that walks children through the parts of the service. You have the option to print this or to grab a paper and colors and make your own sheet as you go.

Sunday Worship Service, March 22, 2020

Here we are in our second Sunday of meeting together not in body, but indeed in one spirit. The Lord our God is with us, and He is calling His church to worship, wherever we find ourselves today.

Moving forward, each week we will send out a Sunday morning email with a video of a worship service, which will include a very short video intro inviting us to quiet our hearts and updating us with anything that will be useful for us to know as we enter into corporate worship in this way.

    Offering:
Please take time before beginning the video to set up online giving or prepare a check to be mailed to PO Box 5102, Charlottesville, VA 22905-5102. Your offering is an act of worship that will help our church during this time continue to glorify God as we seek to love each other and our neighbors.

You have the option to print this or to grab a paper and colors and make your own sheet as you go. We have also included an illustration of Psalm 23 drawn by Cole Jones. Again, if you have the ability to print you can color these, or we encourage you to use this as an inspiration to make your own illustration of what you hear in this Psalm.

    Ministry Update:
During the ministry update Pastor Joe mentioned our Friday email that included some information on ways you can serve during this time. Look through the different options and pray and discuss as a family or household how you can serve. Are you in need of help? Let us know by completing this form.
