Anna Mahon So You Think You Can Belto?

    • Darstellende Kunst

Today's episode is with Anna Mahon.

Anna Mahon spoke to Jeremy Boulton during their rehearsal period of ‘Les Misérables’ at Theater St. Gallen where they’re currently working together.

Anna Mahon was born in New Zealand and graduated with a Bachelor of Music with Honours from the University of Waikato, where she was also a Sir Edmund Hilary Scholar. Anna was Dame Malvina Major Foundation Studio Artist at New Zealand Opera in the 2019/2020 season and a member of the Freemasons NZO Chorus from 2015 to 2020. She was a popular soloist throughout New Zealand, and has been successful in many regional NZ singing competitions, including first prizes in the Dame Malvina Major Foundation Christchurch Aria (2019), the Norah Howell Award (2017) and the Richard Carey Senior Programme (2017). Anna made her European debut as Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro in Italy (Cosa Rara, 2022) and has appeared as a guest soloist at the Mittelsächsisches Theater (2023). Anna is now based in St Gallen, Switzerland, where she sings as a 1. Soprano in the Theaterchor, Theater St. Gallen.

NOTE: Anna would like to add that whilst she talked about the importance of travelling, experiencing different cultures and living abroad, the last thing she intends is to do is to dismiss or discount the immense financial sacrifice that comes from doing this, and how this may not be an option for some people.

Hosted by Jessica Harper (soprano) & Jeremy Boulton (baritone), 'So You Think You Can Belto?' was created to empower emerging operatic practitioners across Australia and the world with access to the direct knowledge and relayed experiences of professionals.

It aims to help inform emerging artists by holding a mirror to the opera system so that artists can make their own individually-informed decisions about auditions, competitions, engagements, and more. You’ll hear everything from in-depth artist interviews, to long form panel discussions on topics concerning emerging artists.
