Harmony in Motion in the Fight Against Parkinson's Disease

Megan Kane-Mangol and Kris Zwemer talk with us about their company, Harmony in Motion, a speech and physical therapy clinic in Carlisle treating individuals with Parkinson's Disease through a holistic wellness base model. In this episode they discuss the different methodologies they use to help PWP increase balance, coordination motor control, speech, breathing and swallowing, all skills that are compromised by the neurodegenerative nature of PD. Kris and Megan also discuss some of the early symptoms of PD and the importance of building a support network sooner rather than later. Symptoms can be managed and in many cases held off with early education, treatment and therapy. Whether you have an official diagnosis of PD or you think you may be seeing signs and symptoms, get educated about what can help you before the disease progresses. Kris and Megan are committed to one-on-one therapy that supports individuals in a solutions focused environment. Visit Harmony in Motion on the web at https://www.harmonyinmotiontherapy.com/. Or email them at info@harmonyinmotiontherapy.com. You can also stop in at our Rock Steady Boxing Open House on April 29 from 11:30-1:30 to talk with Megan and Kris and to see what our Rock Steady Boxing program for people struggling with Parkinson's Disease is all about and see if it is the right fit for you. The Open House will take place at Carlisle Core Fitness & Health, 810 North Hanover Street Carlisle PA.

I am not drunk officer, I have Parkinson's Disease

Originally aired on June 2, 2022 "When I was first diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease, I felt so alone." Josh Meikrantz is 49 and has been living with Parkinson's Disease (PD) for 10 years. There is no cure for PD and as Josh says in our discussion, "You don't die from Parkinson's, you die with Parkinson's". Josh has been battling his degenerating symptoms to maintain control over his life and his body for years. His doctors told him last year that they have reached the "end of the rope" for medication but he has vowed to continue his battle with every tool at hand. For most people exercise and healthy diet is important, for someone with PD it's life or death. Josh is a Carlisle Core member and has been taking part in our Rock Steady Boxing program--a boxing program designed specifically for people with Parkinson's. Josh talks with me about how RSB has helped him manage his PD symptoms and how important it is in his fight to prolong his ability to function as normally as possible for as long as possible.  Rocksteady boxing enables people with Parkinson’s disease to fight back while improving their quality of life through non-contact boxing-based fitness curriculum. Training classes are taught by certified coaches and include an exercise program that attacks Parkinson at its vulnerable neurological points. Recent studies suggest  that intense exercise programs may be neuroprotective, actually working to delay the progress of Parkinson’s symptoms. No boxing experience is necessary and people of all age and levels of Parkinson’s are invited to participate. If you or someone you know is battling PD and want to know more about how RSB can help fight back against the symptoms of PD, contact us at 717-919-2423 or info@carlislecore.com.  Join us April 29 at CCFH at 810 North Hanover Street in Carlisle for a Parkinson's Awareness Month Rock Steady Boxing open house event from 11:30 - 1:30. Learn more about RSB, meet our boxers and coaching staff, try out some of the activities taught in the Boxing class and meet other members of the Carlisle community fighting back against Parkinson's Disease.
