Episode 6: Racism; Where we are, where we were, and where we're going, with Ifanyi Bell Integrate This!

    • Philosophie

In this episode I talk with Ifanyi Bell, an Emmy nominated digital media producer and film maker, and also a close personal friend. Ifanyi has been a long time contributor to OPB and NPR, and is the Founder and CCO of Brushfire, a socially sustainable consulting agency. He is also Executive Producer of Open Signal; a public media arts organization that builds upon the legacy of Portland Community Media (PCM), an organization that empowered thousands of Portlanders to access video and television technology during its 35-year history. Links to some of Ifanyi's work, including his more recent project Future: Portland are below.

In this 3 hour long conversation, Ifanyi and I discuss the topic of Racism in America, following the murder of George Floyd at the hands of a Minneapolis Police Officer. We discuss:

The history of American racism and its roots in the African slave trade.
The impact of various worldview lenses on how race and racism is viewed by people and societies
The current state of racism in America
The South and it's mythological confederate narrative
The Church of Wokeness and it's mythological postmodern narrative
The question of how "systemic" racism really is in America today
The concept of "white privilege"
and a lot more.
