    Your One Stop Manson/Depp Podcast

    Welcome back, dear listener.

Free form, sprawling, wildly speculative as always. It must be another episode of Falling Short. In this episode, we cover a lot of ground - starts in on Sharon Tate, is Trent Reznor incel patient zero, that new Lana del Rey LP, the underwhelming new Sect LP, Korn and nu metal.

But perhaps most importantly of all, we take a look at one of the greatest romances of the 20th century - Marilyn and John.

Now, when we say that, you think of Monroe and Kennedy, right? Oh dear listener, how wrong you are!

    MANSON & DEPP 4 EVER.

Sit back, pack a bowl. We're going into the bushes.

Ep 16 - Resist 8 - The Bright Side of What?

Ep 16 - Resist 8 - The Bright Side of What?

Good things come to those who wait.

    You're welcome.

In a similar sense, though, a recurring theme in this episode is hardcore from the west coast. No idea how or why it happened, but for some reason Perth just took the mantle for a few years in this middle stretch of the Resist catalogue. As such, Jaxon excels as he regales us with 'Nah bro, it was really like this.'

The biggest record we touch on during this episode is 'The Bright Side', the sole full-length from Break Even, who at one point were perhaps the biggest Australian hardcore band outside of Parkway Drive. An interesting band - we talk their development and growth a bit, the story and circumstance from which this record emerged and how badly Perth needed it at the time. This record was a game-changer, definitely in Perth, if not more widely afield - loathe to use the word community, it is hard to position this record as anything other than a community building tool. Big record for a whole generation of young folk in Perth and it breathed some welcome oxygen into things.

Anyway, enough rambling. We also touch on Crafter (as always), the underrated genius of the Clever Species LP and the Against Me! grift.

Strap in, bring Kleenex. It's an emotional one.

Ep 15 - Clean Plate Zero - Is This the Utopia We've Suffered For?

Ep 15 - Clean Plate Zero - Is This the Utopia We've Suffered For?

Sometimes to get to the bottom of a rabbit hole you need to dig laterally, break through other caverns and burrows and maybe even circle back around. A break from the Trustkill and Resist dives to consider what Clean Plate may hold.

    Ep 14 - Resist 7 - The Allegedly Episode

    Ep 14 - Resist 7 - The Allegedly Episode

Catalogue numbers 71-80 of Resist Records and starting to hit our stride, brushing over what sucks and hitting what matters Recorded six months ago in the peak of summer. Excuse the sound of ice clinking in cocktails, cicadas and the blare of bushfire alarms. This episode sees the introduction of our patron saint Dianne amidst a world where Sknow still existed and Huskii was a free man. We skip down the garden path and ‘allegedly’ our way around Gehenna and the Scab Eater incident, touch on the life and crimes of Jack Grisham of TSOL, his weird biography, Ian Curtis, and the only true hero, Eminem.
Two big records in this ten. Carpathian’s Isolation, a record that ages better by the year but was ill received at the time? Almost as importantly, was Her Nightmare’s Come Anarchy, Come Ruin not just a great collection of beatdown mosh tunes but also the best accidental Crimethinc record of the 2000’s?

Ep 13 - Trustkill 4 - The Hardcore Hit Factory Hellfest 2k DVD

Ep 13 - Trustkill 4 - The Hardcore Hit Factory Hellfest 2k DVD

Still scrambling around hoping that the meaning of life will rear its beautiful head while discussing hardcore records. In this episode we hit the dvd… sorry, THE DVD, Hellfest 2001, the Motown hit factory of metalcore and the star maker of so many of these bands. It would also go onto to influence a world of shitty metalcore and a reaction and rise of ‘back to basics’ hardcore acts. We get to the last Brothers Keeper record and for whatever it might mean in a different time and a different place on this side of the globe there’s just no way to shine that s**t into a diamond, look at the endurance of Converge, wonder if Bane will ever fall into classic status, and whether Poison the Well wronged a magical gypsy and are now forever cursed into playing Nerdy and Botchla even as their backs bow and their spirits crumble. It’s a hardcore podcast. In the spirit of the episode and its so many veiled gibberish lyrics big shout out to the fakes and flakes, those with logos and dreams of stepping up off of stones to clouds they’ll fall through, you know who you are.

Ep 12 - Trustkill 3 - Musical Happy Meals, This is Hardcore and Trustkill continuity

Ep 12 - Trustkill 3 - Musical Happy Meals, This is Hardcore and Trustkill continuity

    Welcome!

To those of you who are new, welcome to Falling Short, Australia's premier hardcore/gutter rap podcast. The home of record talk and tenuous tangents.

To those who have been here before, welcome back. Our scathing commentary on some things Trustkill continues this week, as we move through TK20 - 30. Recorded quite late as night, reflected in the slow slip away from coherency as we get to the end of this episode. We also manage to fit in some talk on some more engaging subjects than these records:

    - Brother's Keeper as the McDonalds of hardcore.
    - Walls of Jericho and Kylesa racing for that southern metal market.
    - 'Euro' as an insult.
    - The This is Hardcore lineup for 2019.

Devolves into a dick-waving contest between 18 visions and Poison the Well - TWO ENTER, ONLY ONE CAN EMERGE. WHO HAS MORE CLOUT? IS IT THE HAIR STYLINGS OF 18 VISIONS OR THE CRINGE-WORTHY CLEAN PARTS OF POISON THE WELL? Join us in the confusion.

    Pick your fighter.
    Pick your king.
Embrace the end of all things good and enjoy another episode of Falling Short.
