To say FKA twigs in her near-decade career has seen and experienced it all is an understatement. Since first arriving in 2012 as a hot artist to watch, which each release twigs has extended her alt-baroque-electronic world with each new release, culminating in the grandiose opus Magdalene. In the time since, between some very public and very private battles and a pandemic, twigs took some time to recuperate and nearly stepped away from music altogether. Little did she know, in taking "a break", she'd piece herself and her craft back together again, empowered by the everyday intimacy of life itself. In July 2018, blackgaze (black metal/shoegaze) juggernauts Deafheaven released one of the most unique records in recent memory. Stomach churning vocals balanced across delicate, graceful instrumentation and tropes of classic rock. This was not blast beat, evil black metal; this was pretty and hopeful.
