    Black Girls Must Die Exhausted

    Black Girls Must Die Exhausted

This month we read Black Girls Must Die Exhausted by Jayne Allen. Jayne introduced us to Tabitha Walker who was met with the hardest news of her life and we read the events that displayed Tabitha balancing it all. We discussed our favorite hairstyles and our most embarrassing hair moments, although we were setting trends.

Tabitha and her family/friend’s experiences had us discussing how our lives and experiences related. We discussed relationships, friendships, family, and work events that resurfaced while reading BGMDE. Filled with laughs, cries, and everything in between Tabitha Walker has marked a place in our hearts. BGMDE was a fun, relatable read that shed light on the complications of being a black woman in today’s demanding society. We were able to see how all of the female characters handled the demands in their own life and what consequences they faced. BGMDE is a must-read.

This month we featured Amber Janae’s The Intentional Living Workbook. This workbook was created to support living your life more intentionally. The workbook can be found at https://www.amberjanae.com/shop.

    Sula

    Sula

During May we read Sula by Toni Morrison. A dark tale of two friends who become strangers. We open up the discussion talking about our country’s current state and how much hasn't changed about the care of our black service members. We discuss our family migrating and moving to different states to create better lives for those to come and then we get into the drama. We meet Sula and Nell, which made us reminisce about the freedoms we had in our childhood, being a “ride or die”, and in what situations we would get our parents involved. We share our thoughts on the relationship dynamics between the parents and the children in this story. Then we get to the point that broke us all into pieces, the ultimate betrayal that tore Sula and Nell apart and caused their lives to dissolve. Toni had us captivated by her words, reading and rereading parts, dissecting, and analyzing to understand. This book took us through it, but we enjoyed the journey. Toni Morrison has always been captivating with her words, forcing us to look inward and look deeper than the black ink on paper. We thoroughly enjoyed this read.

Join us next month, as we read Black Girls Must Die Exhausted by Jayne Allen.

It's Not All Downhill From Here

It's Not All Downhill From Here

For the month of April, we read It's Not All Downhill From Here written by Terry McMillian.
This book gave us a glimpse at the life of a group of mature women maneuvering family, friends, and romance.
We enjoyed this read and it sparked enlightening conversations about death and how prepared we are for it; how we handle difficult conversations with the people in our lives; and how we would like to go out for our last big bang!! Temika is ready because the earth is ghetto and Ingrid would like to make it to her birthday. We both hope 2020 gets better for everyone!!

Them Boys Book 1 - Set

Them Boys Book 1 - Set

We clutched our pearls and felt guilty as we got into this hot, steamy romance. Temika fell in love with the romance and Ingrid fell in love with the bad boy persona and sex, typical. Reading this in public had us peeking over our shoulders and sneaking to indulge in the sex scenes. When saying I love you isn’t an option we share the ways that we share our love and how long we can actually keep the love to ourselves. We drop clues to what we need to flourish in relationships and situationships alike. Do you discuss your sex life openly with your friends? We disclose whether our sex/love life is a need to know for friends, when we chose to share or if we share at all. We discuss the way social media plays into our dating lives and if we care what our interests are sharing. Temika shares that she likes to meet people’s representatives while Ingrid prefers full transparency (link to Psychology Today’s article below) from the beginning. Join us as we weave in our own personal thoughts and experiences as they relate to these love birds on their romantic journey.
