The Real Case for Driverless Mobility part five

The Real Case for Driverless Mobility part five

Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear. I’m Fred Fishkin. Part five. Okay…so who really needs driverless mobility? Clearly…it promises to be an affordable, safe option for people who can’t drive themselves for a variety of reasons..and can be life changing. At Princeton University, Professor Alain Kornhauser has worked with teams of students creating a digital tool to show communities nationwide how it can work for them. It will be shown at the upcoming Smart Driving Cars Summit. And Kornhauser says just maybe…it can evenbwork even for those of us who own cars..

“All of a sudden, some people who are buying cars are going to say Whoops…do I need eight? Do I need three? No I only… and that’s all positive.”

Kornhauser is the co-author of the new book, The Real Case for Driverless Mobility. Find more at www.SmartDrivingCar.com.

The Real Case for Driverless Mobility part four

The Real Case for Driverless Mobility part four

Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear. I’m Fred Fishkin. Part 4. In the city of San Francisco, robotaxis have been met with protests and some political opposition. But what if driverless mobility services were focused on a different market. That’s the vision of the new book, The Real Case for Driverless Mobility by Princeton’s Alain Kornhauser and co-author Michael Sena, who says, whether for the old or young or anyone who can’t drive for whatever reason..

“It’s providing rides to people but doing it in a more effective, efficient and flexible way than buses have been able to do. It’s like taxis, but taxis are too expensive for the one reason…they have to be able to pay the driver.”

Sena and Kornhauser contend this isn’t for New York City…where public transit really works. But it is feasible in many if not most other communities. More on that in our next report.

The Real Case for Driverless Mobility part three

The Real Case for Driverless Mobility part three

Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear. I’m Fred Fishkin. With all of the billions of dollars that have been invested by companies like Alphabet with Waymo and GM with Cruise and others…in successfully developing the technology to offer robotaxis…what now? Are they just going to give us an alternative to driving ourselves …or taking an Uber or Lyft to the airport? In the new book, The Real Case for Driverless Mobility, Princeton’s Alain Kornhauser and co-author Michael Sena argue that the focus should be on creating driverless mobility services for people who really need rides, that can be affordable without having to pay a driver…

“And provide a service so that we don’t go bankrupt. We don’t beg from the public sector."

Kornhauser says a private driverless mobility company can make money providing rides for as little as three dollars. More in our next report.
