The Industrial AI Podcast reports weekly on the latest developments in AI and machine learning for the engineering, robotics, automotive, process and automation industries. The podcast features industrial users, scientists, vendors and startups in the field of Industrial AI and machine learning. The podcast is hosted by Peter Seeberg, Industrial AI consultant and Robert Weber, tech journalist.
Their mission: Demystify Industrial AI and machine learning, inspire industrial users.
The Industrial AI Podcast is a proud partner of the Women in AI & Robotics initiative.
The hosts:
Peter Seeberg is an Industrial AI and machine learning expert for the manufacturing industry. He worked over 25 years in IT (Intel) and 10 years in Automation. He co-initiated the Industrial Data Intelligence Startup (Softing) where he was responsible for managing machine learning projects in industrial environments. Today he advises companies when it comes to Industrial AI and machine learning. Together with Robert Weber, journalist for industrial topics, he discusses AI and ML applications, standards, and education topics, make or buy decisions as well as regulation for AI in manufacturing.

Mann+Hummel: Rules for the AI copilot
Jens Wonneberger is the CISO of automotive supplier Mann+Hummel. He explains to us what rules the company has set itself when it comes to GenAI and LLMs. Jens Wonneberger is a big AI advocate, but we've never had a CISO on the Industrial AI Podcast. But the Mann+Hummel rules can certainly help other companies too. In the news section, we talk about BCW24 and one of the highlights was the announcement that Landing AI is a new partner of the crtlX ecosystem. But we also talk about Harting's Industrial Ethernet Week and ask ourselves: Are models ultimately a commodity?

Brandstetter: A foundation model for simulation
Johannes Brandstetter is leading a group “AI for data-driven simulations” at the Institute for Machine Learning at the Johannes Kepler University (JKU) Linz. Additionally, he is a Head of Research (AI4Simulation) at NXAI - the new European AI hub in Linz (Austria). Quote: I am firmly convinced that AI is on the cusp of disrupting simulations at industry-scale. Every day thousands and thousands of compute hours are spent on turbulence modeling, simulations of fluid or air flows, heat transfer in materials, traffic flows, and many more. Many of these processes follow similar underlying patterns, but yet need different and extremely specialized software to simulate. Even worse, for different parameter settings the costly simulations need to be run at full length from scratch.

Siemens Energy: How to decrease simulations computing days down to minutes.
We are starting a small simulation special. Last week it was all about batteries. This week the focus is on gas turbines by Siemens Energy. Behnam Nouri is the AI expert at Siemens Energy. He talks to Peter Seeberg about the simulation of gas turbines and explains how he and his team were able to reduce the calculation time for simulations using machine learning. Peter is traveling with an unreliable Internet connection. So the news part is a bit shorter. Robert Weber talks about Sora and what the new genAI model means for the engineering process.

Newsflash: Pierer invests Millions in Hochreiter‘s XLSTM
As things stand today: "We have to scale. We first test on small data sets, then on medium-sized sets and finally on the very large sets," explains Hochreiter. The XLSTM technology performs "very well" on the small and medium-sized data sets. You have to beat all models on the market, says Linz. Over 1,000 GPUs around the world are currently computing the development from Upper Austria. The time horizon is ambitious: The tests on the smaller and medium-sized data sets should be completed by the end of March. "The large data sets will then take centre stage in June," explains Albert Ortig, Managing Director of NXAI.
