Episode 35 - Redeeming Disney: Intro

Episode 35 - Redeeming Disney: Intro

As you all know we love Disney as a family - the creativity of fantasy, the joy the parks bring our family, the meticulous care and experience the cast members provide, the sense of imagination and wonder and adventure - these are all things we love about Disney.

Unfortunately just as there are some great things about Disney, it's no secret they've been in hot water lately for a variety of reasons - political and social. And while it may be easy for many families to "boycott" Disney, I don't think that's necessarily the only option families have.

The videos in this series will take a look at Disney media and ask how we can redeem those areas in culture. How do we stay faithful to God, while still engaging our culture in a meaningful way? As fathers, it's our job to help kids discern and learn how to interpret culture based on what they see and what they know about the character and Word of God.

Episode 34 - The Daily Plan

Episode 34 - The Daily Plan

In this episode I walk you through what my Daily Plan looks like - a series of questions aimed at focusing my schedule and relationships to live a life in pursuit of being faithful, fruitful, and fit.

Jim Hensel says "We must connect our beliefs, or our core values, to a great routine, including rules, habits, and a system you create so you can daily re-aim and continually move forward and grow."

My Daily Plan is a way for me to connect my core values to a routine in order to continually grow as a disciple, husband, father, friend, and employee.

What it means that our purpose is in our design - it's not something we do
Our identity and purpose as followers of Christ
How to identify and define core values in your life
    Core values as a family
How positive values can anchor you in adversity and ground you in success

Tim Challies defines productivity as "effectively stewarding my gifts, talents, time, energy, and enthusiasm for the good of others and the glory of God."

I've changed my thinking around productivity from something that serves me to more of a stewardship issue. God has entrusted us with gifts and skills and time and money and people, and if we are NOT productive with those things it shows poor stewardship.

It's not just so you can get more done, check off more boxes on your to-do list, add more things to the list, and continue the dreaded cycle. It's so that you can be more active in the work God is doing and be a good steward of the gifts he has given us.
