Picking fights with online gurus

Remote This is a podcast specifically for Nomadic Entrepreneurs.

We are Remotely Powered and Relationship Driven.

We’re Jon with BelmarkMedia, Joel with BAM Create, and Britton with iEvolve Media.

We're process-driven as business owners. It results in better client relations and strategies.

Disclaimer: We are not here to bash or belittle the efforts of these individuals. We are also not saying that you won’t find some-type of success by following the instructions/courses of these individuals. We are hoping that you will do your due diligence to discover if these influencers are a good fit for you & the direction that you have chosen to walk. This conversation is about alignment and helping you make an informed decision.

The three of us may have different points of view when it comes to this topic which we believe will give you a holistic approach to the subject matter. The reality is that not all of what these influencers say is bad, and it’s our job as the consumer to sift through to find the nuggets that will help us on our own success journey.

Obviously this is a controversial topic and again we aren’t here to bash these influencers, gurus, or whatever they call themselves to their community.

We also want to address the realities of running a business & have a discussion on what it’s like for us and entrepreneurs who choose to live this way.

So here are our thoughts on how to avoid investing in the wrong path:

1. Don’t be mislead by marketing hype.

2. Do your due diligence!

3. There are no shortcuts to success.

The 3 tactics they will most likely use are scarcity, urgency, and reciprocity. These are great if used correctly, but very very manipulative if used in a different intention.

Scarcity:

Good - I can only help so many people. I only have so much time. I know I can’t help everyone so I use price to help thin the crowd. The reality is I can only invest effectively into a small number of clients each year, so I only want to commit to what I can handle.

Bad - We have a limited number of spots, don’t miss out on this once in a lifetime opportunity. This is intended to trigger FOMO. The reality is that it’s a webinar replay or virtual event… which can host a bunch of people quite easily.

Urgency:

Good: I am only in town for 3 days and so if you want to meet up, book a spot now… I have 3 spots available tomorrow afternoon.

Bad: We only have this for the next 24 hrs… after that, it’s gone forever. The reality is that if this was true, they wouldn’t have a product to push. I have also heard “Back by popular demand because you wanted it…” I will let you decide if they are genuine, but most of the time they are full of it.

Reciprocity:

Good - Download 3 ways to help your marketing automation for free. Just enter your email. Exchanging one value for another… typically referred to as a lead magnet for lead generation.

Bad -  I want to invite you to this absolutely free real estate event that will show you the path to success and happiness like these other people who followed my advice.

Closing Thoughts:

Be careful who we listen to. Be careful about receiving or giving blanket statements. Make sure you’re aligned with the direction and willing to put in the discipline and sacrifice.
