It's a politics and film podcast...ostensibly. Violent, unabashed slug-salting, balanced out by searing cultural critique and a scripted sitcom we call GAPECAST.
Jack & Sinan Kose review Chris Clarke's 'The Dark Knight and the Puppet Master'
This is the audio of a recent stream on our friend Sinan Kose's (@TheSinanKose on Twitter) Twitch channel - https://www.twitch.tv/skthecrusader.
Jack & Sinan Kose review the recent book by Chris Clarke, the son of former New Labour minister Charles Clarke (the one with the ears), 'The Dark Knight and the Puppet Master'. Bitterly wounded by a lifetime of hard left trolls pointing out that his dad voted for the Iraq War and various anti-civil liberties legislation, Chris identifies closely on a personal level with what might be termed "the establishment", and so feels a visceral aversion to any politics that seeks to challenge what he views as an ultimately benevolent status quo. Drawing a distinction between those who agree with his right-wing views (the "pluralist left"), and the Milneite scum of Corbynism (the "populist left"), Clarke's dull reactionary tract seeks to lay the blame for most of society's problems squarely at the feet of those who don't conform to his platonic ideal of Sensible Politics: needless to say, the boys are delighted to sink their vampiric leftist fangs into such an irredeemable piece of crap.
PATREON PREVIEW: Episode 183 - Homegrown Podcasting Inc.
Subscribe to patreon.com/reelpolitik to hear the full episode. Our next Patreon exclusive will - like our new free episode - feature Nate Bethea of Trashfuture fame.
Once again, happy new year to all - we're back in fucken business! Edited/produced by Yair with extra production by Jack on the Neil Young section, this conversation takes us all the way back to the end of November, when Yair had been watching the films of Ari Aster and Jack was knee-deep in Lucinda Williams' Lu's Jukebox performance series and Neil Young's Neil Young Archives Volume II 1972-76 boxset. It's fairly light and laid back and, to my recollection, does not contain much in the way of politics. But real members of Gape Nation, who love the densely edited musical episodes we sometimes put out, will vibe with it.
Episode 184 - nate bethea christian (ft. Nate Bethea)
Jack, Geraint and Yair are joined for a very special discussion (the first of two parts - #2 will be on patreon.com/reelpolitik in the next few days) by Nate Bethea, co-host and producer of @hellofawaytodie and our friends at Trashfuture (Nate is @inthesedeserts on Twitter). With the addition of Nate to our roster resulting in a half-Jewish/half-American panel, we discussed being Jewish on the left and (in part 2) recent developments in US politics. Most notably, Nate tells us about his run-ins with the baldest of QCs, and his general experiences with the melt equivalent of the Q lot (dubbed "QCAnon" by RP's own tom disso.)
Episode 182 - Desigaped Survivor
After a short break around Christmas, RP are back, and we mean business. This mammoth two-hour episode - probably the longest in ages - finds us all guns blazing, and this time dealing with some completely insubstantial material of absolutely no consequence; the dreadful American TV drama series Designated Survivor. The show is an ineptly pulpy work of US imperialist propaganda that Jack flatly describes as evil, such is its stubborn refusal to contemplate that the US may ever not be 100% in the right about everything. With the original trio of Jack, Yair and Tom, and Jack behind the boards, our latest venture into what Eddie Marsan calls "promoting democracy in other countries" is an RP for the ages.

O Come All Ye Gapeful (GAPECAST #21)

Cheerful reminiscences are shared about a Gapes child's Christmas in Wales, service as a guard at a Japanese POW camp in WWII and nights spent stealing milk from unsuspecting children, and visits are paid to Gapes Manor by friends-o-Gapes including Van Morison, Gorgeous Georgie and the ghost of Jeffrey Epstein.
JFR as Mike Gapes, young Mike Gapes, Mike Gapes' father, Van Morrison, Welsh miner/Owen Smith, Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present & Future, postman, Gorgeous Georgie, Gorgeous Gilbert, David Bowie and burglar/Joe Pesci
