Short Cornucopia Radio Fiction Productions Cornucopia Radio

- Fiktion
I often have people send me small bits of flash fiction, short stories and poetry. So I’ve decided to create a new project in which I occasionally take the most interesting work that I’m sent, and bring my own interpretations to these pieces
Each production will be around 1-2 minutes in length and will feature one different voice-performer each time. The audio will be mixed with a suitable musical track, and an abstract video will be created in which the spoken text will be overlaid over the visuals.
I purposely create the mood and the visuals based on what the piece means to me when I read it. I believe that when you adapt another persons idea, you create a unique amalgamation; something that couldn’t exist by itself.
If you’re interested in sending me some work that you feel might be suitable for this style (or you’re interested in voicing pieces like this for me) drop me an email to studio@cornucopia-radio.co.uk
Please Note: This is the audio only feed for this series. To view the different videos that go alongside these pieces, please visit: http://www.cornucopia-radio.co.uk/short-video-fiction

Old Ground
On a pitch black night. On a storm swept road a few miles out of town. Torrential rain had soaked him to the skin in seconds. But he had never been so grateful of a passing lift in his whole life. He opened the passenger car door and got in, and slowly the truth was revealed...

“Old Ground” is our brand new #shortstory #flashfiction audio piece for #Halloween2023 about a mysterious meeting on an empty road.
It was written by our good friend Gareth Brownbill and all the voices were performed by the brilliant Idiom (Nick Anderson). You can find our more about Idiom on their castingclub profile: https://www.castingcall.club/idiom
I really like the original #graphicnovel artwork I’ve created for the video visuals and the tone/style I’ve directed the work with. I got a #CliveBarker #Hellraiser feel when I first read this story from Gareth and I’ve used this initial feeling in the final work.
As ever, do leave a comment with you own thoughts. I love the way we can all have our own ideas about a story and what it means; and no differing interpretation is ever wrong.

A Happy Saturday
In the hedgerow of the park . Where the children play. Away from parents’ watchful eyes. A happy Saturday.
In the Hedgerow of the park. Where the children play In broken glass and syringes. A happy Saturday.
In the hedgerow of the park Where the children play. They poke the eyeball of the corpse. A happy Saturday.

It Shouldn’t Have Been This Way
The recorder beeps when she presses the stop button, the nuclear winds blowing through her close-cropped hair. He’s gone, but she’s survived. And she will keep surviving. To spite him, despite him, or because she truly does love him. She blows the sand off the microphone and presses record.

Life Trail
He stepped out of the murky mist as the dawn broke. The thistles swayed strangeness in the sullen air. A cool feeling breezed through him as he approached his desolate village, where family once worked and played. Bread in a window. Smoke in the air. Knives being sharpened. Now motionless. Without wings. His bare footsteps plodded on through the caked dirt. Not a sound or a soul to be found. Where was he? Who was he?
A stranger on his own ground.
