Equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) are three closely linked values that enable us to support the needs of different groups of people.

In this podcast (the first in a series of two) we celebrate the launch of the SHRA’s new ‘EDI in retrofit’ toolkit by exploring why embedding EDI within housing retrofit is so vital.

Our host Sarah Daly leads a discussion with James Olujohungbe (Department for Energy Security and Net Zero) and Anusha Shanmuganantha (Turner & Townsend) around what EDI means to them, the risks of not engaging with everyone fairly, and how diverse workplaces can bring significant benefits.

A resident-first approach to planning retrofit works is vital for the decarbonisation our social housing stock.  Involving residents not only empowers them with a sense of ownership and pride in their community, but also allows for diverse perspectives and needs.



Nick Atkin, chief executive of Yorkshire Housing, joins guest host Sarah McClelland to discuss the organisation’s experience of engaging tenants in retrofit projects, including between funding windows when there is no certainty over the date works will take place.

This episode discusses the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund (SHDF) Wave 2.2 and explores eligibility, bid criteria and how the Social Housing Retrofit Accelerator can support potential applicants.

Eligible social housing landlords now have until 31 January 2024 to submit applications via the dedicated application portal – providing additional time to prepare and finalise bids after the holiday period.
