Ep.469. Extend The Commission – Siobhan’s Story
We just finished recording a short podcast with Siobhan, who is a survivor of the Mother and Baby Homes and one of the 549 people who gave their testimony to the Commission. She outlines how she feels that the Commission framed her testimony even as she was giving evidence and how events of the last few months have only served to confirm that view. She outlines the various ways the State has denied and continues to deny her and her fellow survivors their rights and she calls on us all to let our elected representatives know that dissolving the Commission now is unacceptable.

Ep.79 – The Global Alliance for Tax Justice: It’s Tax Abuse
This Reboot Republic podcast is the first in a series of interviews with the Nobel Peace Prize nominated, Global Alliance for Tax Justice. Joining us today is their head of advocacy and Adviser at the Latin-American Fiscal Justice Network, Grazielle David. We talk about the how terms like tax evasion and tax avoidance don't describe what is Tax Abuse. We look at the scale of damage this global network of wealth accumulation does and what it means for health systems, workers rights and the environment.
Grazielle discusses how we can apply pressure both internationally and here at home to tackle this and to decrease the inequality that is at the heart of so many of our globally shared problems. We are delighted to be working with GATJ and hope to bring you more from across their network in the coming weeks.

Ep.466 – Catalunya, Spain, Inequality & Free Speech with Prof Joe Haslam
It was great to catch up with Prof Joe Haslam in Madrid to discuss the recent elections in Catalonia, what that means for the Independence movement and the issues around free speech that have surfaced over the arrest of the rapper Pablo Hasél. We also talk about the underlying inequality and how this is the real driver of social unrest, even if it is been weaponised by some on the political extremes.

Tortoise Shack Live – We’re Gonna Need a Bigger Tent
This week Tony led Linda, Martin and Caroline along with our special guests, Julien Mercille of ISAG, UCC's Aman De Sondy and tortoise shack world champion, Saoirse McHugh, to talk about the stories of the week and some things that might've slipped under the radar. We discuss the Mother and Baby Homes Report (call to action below), Zero Covid Green Zones (get involved at wecanbezero.com), more attempts to import transphobia, a bad few weeks for racists, CETA in the Climate Committee, Britney, Kanye and Kim, our heroes of the week and more. Sinn Féin Senator Lynn Boylan also joined us for our Q&A.

Ep.465 – 9 More Weeks In Level 5 with Gary Gannon
We thought we'd do a short reaction podcast about the clumsy announcement of a further 9 weeks in Level 5. But as a daddy of a Junior Cert student, I also wanted to cover the exam and school situation. So Soc Dems TD and Party Spokesperson for Education, Gary Gannon, joined us to delve into all of that.
We also discuss the State compounding wrongs by destroying the testimonies given to the Mother and Baby Homes Commission, and we touch on the anti-democratic Land Development Agency Bill. We went a little longer than planned. But that is the beauty of the impromptu podcast.

Ep.463 – Ireland, The Gift That Keeps Giving
When we heard the Govt say that they're going to delay reforming the insurance sector as it would hamper Ireland's attractiveness to international insurers, we had to do one of our all too regular impromptu patron only podcasts.
We talk Ireland as a Corporate Paradise, the ESRI getting in trouble with the Government for telling the truth about house prices, the LATEST* on CETA, what's happening in the Gig Economy and the disgraceful deletion of testimonies by the Mother and Baby Homes Commission.
We've lifted the paywall for this podcast. But we need help to keep going, so please join us at: patreon.com/tortoiseshack
*eyes peeled on the Climate Committee next week...
