The Poet's Truth About Community: Should We Unite Under a Common Goal? Is Community a Vital Function of a Prosperous Society‪?‬ Logical Poet: Poetry and Uncomfortable Truths

    • Philosophie

* Special Guest Episode* *Featured Poet and performance* Why is community important? Should we unite in community under Reason? Is it necessary for a prosperous society to unite under a common goal?  On this episode, Kai, The Tortured Orator, discusses the uncomfortable truth of community. Kai has a conversation with special guest, Alex Petunia, a nurse, poet, and community organizer.  Alex Petunia is a nurse poet who has worn a kaleidoscope of hats, like drumming in an all-girl rock band, hippo-ing in a space ship, and road tripping with the moon and her poetry. Her writing invites you to hug a tree, frolic barefoot in with the Earth and share a breath with yourself. Her poetry has been published in works such as the In the Words of Women's International Anthology and the Las Lunas Locas' I Rite to Live Anthology. Through the Community Literature Initiative's Poetry Publishing Program, she crafted her first collection of poetry, which is due to come out in 2021. She hosts One Mic One Globe virtual open mic series and Meditation Mondays writing sessions through the Los Angeles Poet Society, while also being a TA for CLI Season 8. Writing has been her centering practice while she sips tea with a snake around her neck, puppies by her side and a cat meowing for more poems. On this episode we also discuss the importance of the individual within a community, the importance of discourse, debate, discussion, diversity and critical thinking. Alex Petunia also performs two poems, so be sure to listen throughout the entire podcast.
